Out of the many unnecessary Marvel projects that have been lined up in Phase 5 & 6, the Fantastic Four reboot seems to be the only film that Marvel really cares about. The amount of thought given to the project is immense, something if done to some of the Phase 4 projects, it would’ve definitely benefitted Marvel. There seems to be no haste about anything. Kevin Feigi took his time to find the correct director for this venture- Matt Shakman and Shakman too is making sure that all the elements have lined up perfectly before he heads into production. He has suggested rewrites, and is also taking time with the casting process. The most recent update we’ve gotten is that Marvel is looking to cast Adam Driver as Reed Richards and his co-star in The Last Duel, Jodie Comer as Sue Storm. There is no confirmation regarding this, but these names have popped up quite often. Now, there is a new casting update regarding another member of the Fantastic Four family.
Fantastic Four: Paul Mescal As The Human Torch?
Reputed industry insider- Daniel Richtman revealed on his Patreon that Marvel Studios has offered the role of Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch to Paul Mescal for 2025’s Fantastic Four reboot. The actor starred in last year’s Aftersun along with being part of 2020’s Normal People. He is also the lead of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel. The Irish actor certainly has talent and could go on to become one of the big names in Hollywood. It is smart of Marvel to invest in his star power from the start.
Additionally, Mescal is young enough to play Johnny Storm, if the film is true to the comics, then Peter Parker and Johnny Storm are supposed to be the same age. Both, Tom Holland and Mescal are born in the same year. The actor is both Oscar and Emmy nominated at such a young age, his addition to the MCU will certainly be valuable. It has to be noted that neither Marvel nor Disney have commented on this news. No official update has been given, so for now at least, this should be regarded as a rumor.
The Fantastic Four reboot is slated to release in theatres on 14th February 2025.
