Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Full Plot Summary Leaked
The film opens with a flashback of Rocket, “89P13”, among a group full of caged raccoons, High Evolutionary picks him. Cut to present on Knowhere, the new Guardians HQ. Quill is an alcoholic after Gamora’s death, the rest of the Guardians are worried about him. Suddenly, Adam Warlock arrives on Knowhere to grab Rocket. He decapitates Groot, nearly beats Drax to death, and blasts Rocket with an energy beam, sending him into a critical state. Nebula stabs him, he flies off. Quill and Mantis try to use a med-pack on Rocket, but a kill-switch in his mechanical upgrades threatens to kill him if they use it. They have 48 hours until he dies. They figure out what corporation has the technology used on Rocket and go to their planet-HQ, leaving Kraglin and Cosmo behind to guard Nowhere.
As they near the planet-HQ, they meet Past!Gamora, now a member of the Ravagers. She helps them infiltrate the planet, but a fight breaks out. They obtain the file on Rocket’s mechanical parts, but a portion was deleted and saved to the brain-computer of one of the High Evolutionary’s “recorders.” They decide to track him down to the High Evolutionary’s coordinates. The Sovereign (gold chick from GOTG 2 and Adam Warlock’s “mom”) and Adam Warlock arrive at the planet-HQ, as they have to get Rocket back to the High Evolutionary, their creator. Throughout the story, we get flashbacks showing Baby Rocket, 89P13, being experimented on and developed by the High Evolutionary.
The High Evolutionary wants to create a utopia of anthropomorphic animals by shoving them in chambers that fast-forward them through millions of years of controlled, programmed evolution in seconds. Baby Rocket’s cellmates are an otter with mechanical arms (Lyla), a walrus with tires for feet and mechanically-pried-open eyes (Teefs), and a bunny with robot spider legs and a metallically-caged mouth (Floor). Baby Rocket helps the High Evolutionary perfect the process, and afterwards, the High Evolutionary orders Baby Rocket’s brain to be surgically removed for study and for his cellmates to be incinerated. Baby Rocket breaks them out, but as they’re about to escape, the High Evolutionary shoots Lyla. His reinforcements arrive, and Rocket shoots them dead, but he turns around to find the reinforcements killed Teefs and Floor. Rocket claws off the High Evolutionary’s face and escapes.
They arrive at the High Evolutionary’s coordinates, Counter-Earth, full of “humanimals” created by the High Evolutionary. Gamora is to stay with Rocket, Drax and Mantis stay near the ship, and Nebula, Quill, and Groot go to the High Evolutionary’s lair. As they go to his lair, they see homeless humanimals, crack-dealing humanimals, and humanimals killing each other, proving it isn’t utopia. Nebula has to stay behind because her arm is a weapon, and Groot and Quill go into the lair. The High Evolutionary reveals that since Counter-Earth failed as utopia, he’s going to blow it up and start a new colony experiment. The planet starts to blow up, and his lair-spaceship launches. Quill tackles the “recorder” whose computer has the deleted file, and Groot flies down to help Quill land. They get the data.
Meanwhile, one of the High Evolutionary’s “War-Pigs” is sent to the Guardians’ ship to grab Rocket. Adam Warlock also arrives and fights the War-Pig, because he needs to be the one to get Rocket. Gamora tries to fight them both off but has to run. When Adam realizes the planet is blowing up, he flies over to try and save his mom, but she’s blown up in the explosions. Nebula, Drax, and Mantis infiltrate the High Evolutionary’s ship right as Groot and Quill are falling off of it. Quill, Groot, and Gamora use the deleted file to fix Rocket’s mechanics, but he flatlines. He sees Lyla, Teefs, and Floor in an afterlife, but he’s told he’s still needed here and now, and Quill resuscitates him.
Quill, Groot, Gamora, and Rocket go to save Drax, Nebula, and Mantis, who have been captured by H.E. They radio Kraglin, who brings the entirety of Knowhere through a warp point, and a massive cannon built in the eye socket of Knowhere blasts a hole in H.E.’s ship. As Quill and Gamora try to board, Adam attacks their ship. The ship crashlands in H.E.’s loading dock, and Quill self-destructs the ship to kill Adam. Groot saves Adam, because everyone deserves a second chance. Drax, Nebula, and Mantis tame the monsters H.E. was trying to kill them with, and they ride the monsters to meet up with the rest of the Guardians. Quill, Gamora, Nebula, Drax, Rocket, Mantis, and Groot all fight through H.E.’s ship, while Kraglin and Cosmo fight on Knowhere
The Guardians free all of H.E.’s slaves and experiments, and they’re escorted to Knowhere. Rocket finds a litter of baby raccoons and sees the scientific name and classification of what a “raccoon” is. H.E. shows up, throws him around. Rocket stabilizes himself and says he’s not 89P13, he’s “Rocket Raccoon.” He blasts H.E., the rest of the Guardians show up and beat him down. He barely gets back up, and the corner of his face is loose. It’s revealed H.E.’s face is a mask of his skin stretched over the bloody, viscera-coated skull left by Rocket clawing his face off, and they leave H.E. on the floor without his face rather than kill him.
Guardians reunite at a bar on Knowhere and figure out what’s next. They decide to go their separate ways: Peter decides to go home back to Earth to reunite with his grandpa; Mantis is going off on her own to finally figure out what she wants for herself; Nebula is staying behind to lead Knowhere; Drax is staying on Knowhere to watch over the former H.E. slaves; Gamora is back with the Ravagers; and Rocket and Groot will keep the Guardians team going. As they prepare to leave, Groot says “I love you guys.”
In the mid-credits scenes, Rocket and Groot’s new Guardians are on a desert planet. The team consists of Rocket, Groot, Adam Warlock, Cosmo, Phyla-Vell (one of the slaves), and Kraglin. Groot now looks like the leftmost Groot in picrel, massive and bulky. In the post-credits, Peter and his grandpa are having breakfast together talking about mowing the lawn. The final card at the end of the film reads “THE LEGENDARY STAR-LORD WILL RETURN.” You can check out in depth post-credit scenes descriptions here.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is all set to release in theatres worldwide on 5th May 2023.
