Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise hit for Marvel when it came back in 2014. Not just that, it still remains one of the best MCU films ever made with a lot of heart, humor, and badass moments. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 followed the footsteps of Vol. 1 and once again presented a refined piece of superhero cinema. The franchise has gathered millions of fans and everyone is quite excited for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Although, they all appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, their portrayal wasn’t as iconic as in their own movies. So, it’s finally time to gear up for a new adventure and this adventure would mark the introduction of one of the strongest Marvel characters there is – Adam Warlock. But at the same time, it will also mark the end of certain beloved characters.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – Who Is Going to Die and Who Will Retire?
Read on only if you can deal with MAJOR POTENTIAL SPOILERS for the film. A few months ago, James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is going to be his last Guardians as well as Marvel movie. He also confirmed that being the last film, it will result in many happy, sad, and bitter sweet character endings. James Gunn has never shied away from killing off characters and the death of Yondu in GOTG Vol 2 proved that he has the guts to kill off the fan favorites as well. So, brace yourself as Vol 3 is going to be full of heartbreaks and we now have leaks about some of the character who will bid us farewell.
A tweet by @AlexFromCC, a reliable source of information, suggests that it is indeed Drax who is going to get the axe in Volume 3. Honestly, it doesn’t come as a shock and he is probably the most expendable member in the team. First of all, he is the most butchered Marvel character of all time who never lived up to his Drax ‘The Destroyer’ persona and was instead reduced to the joker of the team. His character arc is basically non existent and never served any purpose. His eternal desire to kill Thanos and take revenge for his family was completely sidelined by Marvel and he only ever stood confronted Thanos once for a millisecond, failing terribly.
As for his powers, he was supposed to be as strong as the Hulk but turned out to be weaker than most Marvel characters. So apart from his makeup and build up, he has been completely and utterly wrecked by the makers. Add to that, the pain Dave Bautista has to undergo for his makeup, and body, it is clearly not worth it. Marvel never paid attention to his character and treated him with utter disrespect. Yet he became a beloved character for his dim-wittedness and humor and he will surely be missed and mourned, even though his character proved to be largely pointless.
Moving on, it has also been leaked that the film will also feature the end of the most popular and beloved member of the team Rocket Raccoon. But don’t worry, it is not the kind of end you’re thinking. Rocket is all set to receive a bitter-sweet ending as Rocket will get reverted back to a normal Racoon with Lylla. Lady Lylla is a sapient otter and Rocket Raccoon’s soulmate in Marvel Comics. As you may have guessed from the trailer, the film will feature Rocket’s origin story and therefore, it can be assumed that it will have a larger purpose. So, as per leaks, Rocket will stay back with Lylla and hence part from the team. We’re not sure whether or not he’ll be converted back to a normal raccoon but in both these cases, it will be a bitter-sweet ending as fans won’t see him MCU again.
As for rest of the members, we do not have any solid information or leaks on whether they’ll still be a team or part ways. It can be assumed that at the end of the film we might see formation of a new team led by Adam Warlock with only 1-2 original members going forward. As for James Gunn himself, he’s now hanging his glasses and moving on to grab the reigns of the newly formed DC Cinematic Universe. So, do let us know in the comments what you think about this information and do express your frustration, grief, or whatever you feel.
