I AM Groot is an extension of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in Marvel. The spin-off will feature Groot in the center stage. The 5-episode series is directed by Kirsten Lepore. The show will see Groot voiced by Vin Diesel, after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 where Groot sacrifices himself in order to save his friends. However, we see that the tree sentient is starting to grow back from a twig. He becomes baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and then throughout the film he grows into a teenager Groot, we see this same version of him in Avengers: Infinity War as well.
Groot can survive only by saying the words “I am Groot” and the true meaning of these words can be only understood by his friend and partner in crime- Rocket Racoon. The show will feature some of the off-screen adventures that Groot enjoyed between the events of Vol. 1 & Vol. 2. Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper are reprising their roles as Groot and Rocket Racoon respectively. As it is Comic Con and Marvel likes to go all out, they’ve shared with us the first trailer for the Disney+ show.
SDCC 22 gives us the First Look at I AM Groot Spin-Off!
The trailer shows a much for G-rated version of James Gunn’s signature potty humor which we last saw in Guardians of the Galaxy. The scene shown in the trailer definitely looks like the setting of Pixar’s ‘A Bug Life’. However, it has more wit and heart to it. One thing that is evident from the trailer is that this show is clearly meant for kids around the same age as the main character. The fart joke and the overall tone of the entire trailer is sufficient proof of it.
Although, I don’t see this as an issue as this will just help relax the eager fans who are waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 content. They’d be treated with I am Groot next month and then later this year they’ll enjoy the Holiday Special of Guardians of the Galaxy that James Gunn has been preparing for them. Marvel’s most recent film- Thor: Love and Thunder also had a cameo from all the Guardians, so that’s always welcomed. This all should hold off fans until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when it releases next year on 5th May 2023.
