Along with She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel it looks like we have another female lead superhero show coming from Marvel. Disney+ has become Marvel’s home for introducing new characters and giving them their origin story. This year it treated us with Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel TV series. The Marvel comic character Ironheart aka Riri Williams who was introduced in 2016 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, with Eve Ewing and Kevin Libranda later redesigning the character. The character is all set to make his MCU debut in the upcoming Phase 4 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. We got to see her first look in the Wakanda Forever trailer.
The trailer at least makes us believe that she is extremely pivotal to the film. After her debut in the Black Panther sequel, the character will be introduced to the audience via a Disney+ series; the series recently started filming as well as added a few members to its already impressive cast. As the filming has begun we have gotten the first look of the possible villain of this series Anthony Ramos as The Hood. We even got a clear look at Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart suit. However, as the filming is going on the show has added another celebrity to its cast in a mystery role.
Nine Perfect Strangers Star Zoe Terakes Joines Ironheart!
On Wednesday, the announcement was done where Nine Perfect Strangers and Wentworth star Zoe Terakes will join the cast of the upcoming Ironheart series. Zoe Terakes is a transgender and a non-binary person. He is the second non-binary person in the entire show as recently another non-binary person was cast- Shea Couleé. It’s good to see the MCU being open to everyone and everything. However, we’ll have to see what role will the star play.
The show’s lead Dominique Thorne mentioned to the Empire Magazine in an interview last year, “I was at home in Delaware and I got a call asking if I would like to play this role. It was the best phone call I could have ever received, I was so shocked, in fact, that there was a considerable lag in the conversation! (laughs) I was waiting for them to say, like, ‘Oh, we’ll send you the sides’ or, ‘Get your tape over to us.’ But there was none of that. It was just like, ‘Would you like to do this?’ It was probably the most unique experience I’ve ever had because there was no audition at all.”
Series star Anthony Ramos said in a recent interview, “It’s incredible people, Chinaka Hodge, Ryan Coogler and just, like, a dope squad… you know, Dominique Thorne… and I just feel blessed and grateful, I’m so excited… I used to be in the gym like, ‘C’mon, Marvel, call… c’mon, Marvel, call. Let’s go!'”
Terakes in an unknown role will join Dominique Thorne who plays the lead role of Riri Williams aka Ironheart. Good Girls star Manny Montana will feature as a series regular, probably in a negative role. Along with him, In the Heights star Anthony Ramos as The Hood, This Is Us alum Lyric Ross and Shea Couleé. The series will be helmed by multiple directors including Sam Bailey (Dear White People) and Angela Barnes (Gillian in Georgia), they’ll collaborate with head writer Chinaka Hodge (Snowpiercer). Hodge even acted as Executive Producer to Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther.
Ironheart will start streaming on Disney+ in Late 2023.
