Loki Season 2 Ending Explained - All Your Questions Answered

Loki Season 2 has somehow managed to be the best MCU Disney Plus production since Loki Season 1 itself. After failure of MCU’s past 2 TV Series as well as the atrocity known as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a lot was riding on this season. Therefore, it’s really good to report that Loki has only improved its quality as stands high as the flagship MCU D+ series so far. The first 5 episodes managed to be visually captivating, showcase gripping subplots, and establish a grander narrative. The finale however, has left fans with more questions than answers and the worst thing is that it doesn’t offer much explanation for anything that transpired in the episode. So, here we’ll try to explain whatever that finale was and what it means for the future of MCU in a question answer manner.

What Was He Who Remains / Kang’s Grand Plan?

Well, halfway through the episode Loki confronts He Who Remains at the end of the time just before Sylvie killed him in Season 1. It turns out that He Who Remains had planned all this from the beginning that whatever happens to Loki throughout season 2 would leave him with two choices. His first choice would be to kill Sylvie and save He Who Remains, therefore saving the sacred timeline. His second choice would be to break the loom and see what happens. It turns out Kang was quite confident that Loki would choose to save him and hence let Sylvie kill him.

Why Did Fixing The Loom Not Work?

As shown by the episode, Loki spent centuries trying to learn everything he could about science and maths and finally achieved his goal. Yet The Loom couldn’t take the load of the timelines, because apparently nothing can make The Loom contain infinite amount of branches. This makes complete sense and, at the end of time, He Who Remains explains to Loki how The Loom was only designed to hold the sacred timeline and will never be able to hold the multi-verse. So, Loki’s only option is to prevent Sylvie from killing him or see what happens if he breaks the Loom.

What Happened When Loki Destroyed The Loom?

Choosing to give the multiverse a chance rather than letting He Who Remains control it, Loki destroyed the Loom. This resulted in infinite amount of branches of realities spread out. However, Sylvie noticed how every single branch now seemed to be dying. Possible explanation for this is that The Loom kept the sacred timeline and all its branches alive and destroying the Loom basically killed them anyways.

How Did Loki Revive the Dead Timelines In the End?

Honestly, we have absolutely no idea how this happened and it frankly doesn’t make much sense. Somehow Loki was able to revive all the branches, walk among them like God, and then sit on a throne holding the multiverse together. Although this sequence was visually stunning and badass, we get absolutely no explanation about how Loki was able to revive the multiverse. This feat puts him at the same level as The One Above All, The Creator, or whatever Marvel Comics calls the Supreme Entity. We understand that he mastered the ability to go anywhere in time or space but reviving entire timelines and holding the entire multiverse together is just a different deal altogether. We hope we receive an explanation for this soon enough.

Is Loki Now The God of Stories?

Essentially, yes, Loki is now The God of Stories but he is so much more. In the God of Stories arc, Loki gained the power to travel from one dimension to another and hence got the power to rewrite the stories. MCU Loki however, didn’t just get the power over time and space but is literally holding the Multiversal Yggdrasil together. As mentioned above, he is way beyond The God of Stories level of power.

What Does Yggdrasil Tree At the End Signify?

When Loki holds the branches together at the end of the season, we see him shape them into something that looks like the Yggdrasil Tree. This doesn’t mean much in the grander scheme of things but it signifies how he’s holding everything together. In Norse Mythology, Yggdrasil is the sacred Tree of Life that holds the 9 realms together and allows the Aesir to travel between the realms. Similarly, Loki now holds the multiverse together and is basically the Tree of Mutliverse, if that makes sense.

Will Loki Return? Will There Be A Loki Season 3?

Given his current situations, it seems like if Loki gets up from his throne and loses the grasp over the branches, everything will collapse. This leaves you to wonder, however, how Loki would eat or pee and stuff for the rest of existence XD. Anyways, it is highly likely that we’ll see Loki again in the Mutliversal saga. I mean you just can’t leave him there sitting all alone while the fate of the multiverse rests of how long he’ll be able to sit on the throne. We are pretty sure Avengers will figure out a way to rid Loki of this huge responsibility by the end of Secret Wars. Also, we expect other variants of Loki to make an appearance in Phase 5 and 6. As for Loki season 3, it hasn’t been confirmed yet and honestly doesn’t make much sense for it to happen. All characters have received satisfying endings however, we are sure we’ll see more of TVA in coming future.

Will Jonathan Majors Return as Kang Return After Loki Season 2?

You may or may not be aware that Jonathan Major’s future in MCU is in jeopardy after the criminal allegations he has faced. However, it is quite clear that Kang is a very essential part of the MCU and Avengers 5 is literally titled “The Kang Dynasty”. So, Kang’s going nowhere although Jonathan Major might not be returning as him from this point on. As you may know, Kang’s Variants can be of any shape, sizes or species, so it really won’t be hard to replace him with about any other actor. The council of Kangs has already been introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and you can damn sure we’ll see more of him.

What Happened to Renslayer?

We see Renslayer regain consciousness in the Void, which we were introduced to in Seaosn 1. Void is the desolate realm at the end of time that all pruned individuals are transported to. We see Renslayer as the Void’s gatekeeper, the ravenous entity Alioth, soon appears hinting her demise. The thing to notice here, however, that we see a quick glimpse at the floor which makes it clear that the Void is nothing but the TVA itself at the end of time.

That is pretty much it. All episodes of Loki Season 1 and Season 2 are now available to stream on Disney Plus!
