Loki Season 2 Episode 1 has somehow managed to be the best MCU Disney Plus production since Loki Season 1 itself. After failure of MCU’s past 2 TV Series as well as the atrocity known as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a lot was riding on this season. Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Review – As Good As Season 1
Rating – ★★★★
Being as good as season 1 is no small feat to achieve in the current MCU landscape. In the past few productions, MCU has managed to ruin Thor, Ant-Man, Hulk, Nick Fury, Daredevil, and many other beloved characters, hence, everyone was bracing themselves for another disappointment. However, Loki Season 2 has managed to stand tall among the rest of MCU mediocrity. The credit for this amazing kicker of an episode goes to the writing team, VFX and editing team, and most of all to the actors! The trio of Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Owen Wilson (Mobius), and Ke Huy Quan (OB) managed to sell each and every sequence and dialogue.
Hiddleston especially, seemed to have worked on this episode with utmost passion and hence, every second he was on screen, was absolutely glorious. In a media environment where the main protagonists are getting increasingly forgettable and side-lined, Hiddleston as Loki completely owns the show. Owen Wilson continued his good work as Mobius and the dynamics between Loki and Mobius is absolutely stunning. Every joke between the two of them hit the mark and every intense moment was well executed as well. Terrific actors! Talking about that, they were joined by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan as OB, who felt like their long lost friend and completely synced in with Loki-Mobius dynamics.
Moving on, the episode wasted absolutely no time getting to the central conflict, all the while working on the subplot of stopping Loki from Time-Skipping. It was a jam packed episode which instantly upped the stakes and made it clear that we are in for a ride. It also solved the Loki’s time-skipping subplot by the end in a rather nail-biting sequence and set up the premise for Episode 2 as well. At the end, we see the return of Sylvie but honestly, it was a bit hard to understand what exactly happened towards the end. We see Loki encounter Sylvie while looking for a Timestick in the future of TVA. Next thing we know, Loki is pruned by someone and successfully appears back to the present, while the present Sylvie travels to 1982 Broxton, Oklahoma.
So, Loki season 2 episode 1 leaves us with a lot of questions. Who pruned Loki? Who was calling the telephone Loki heard in future? What was Sylvie doing in the future? Why is the present Sylvie visiting Oklahoma in post-credits? Is the timeline exploding in future? Guess we’ll have to wait and find out in this complicated time-travel mayhem of a show. Talking about technicalities, the episode featured brilliant VFX, flawless camerawork and editing, magnificent set designs, detailed costumes, and a banger score. The opening and closing titles of the series remain the same as season 1 ’cause if it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it. Finally, the overall tone and vibe of the season seems as charming and glorious as the previous season as well.
Final Verdict – Loki Season 2 is a worthy follow up to the glorious season 1 and if the quality continues, we might finally see MCU get back on track. And while its certainly not the best of Loki, we can assure you it is the same product and will surely fulfil your expectations as a fan.
