Marvel

Marvel bombarded all the content they’re coming out within the next 3 years on the second day of Comic Con. In the Marvel panel, Kevin Feigi walked up on the stage and re-announced the Blade movie. It was first announced at SDCC 3 years go, and we’ve been patiently waiting to hear more about it for a long time. We knew that Mahershala Ali is going to play the part but other than that, we never got any updates. It was announced that the new Blade reboot is coming out and that it will be part of Phase 5. Although, all these updates seem like a recap as they’re almost 4 months old. After the SDCC’22 Marvel panel we never gave any updates on the Blade movie. Considering that the film is not that far away and knowing how Marvel likes to finish their film’s early, it was unusual for the film to not start shooting.

It was soon reported that the production is halted as director Bassam Tariq has left the projects due to “scheduling conflicts”. Marvel has been looking out for directors to replace him but until now they’ve had hard luck. It was clear that Blade is possibly being delayed due to these recent happenings. Marvel hadn’t officially announced anything but the movie’s script was being re-written and the director search was going nowhere. So, it was clear and today Disney has revealed a new list of release dates where four films from Phase 5 & 6 are delayed, one of them being Blade.

Which Films has Marvel delayed?

2022 has not been kind to MCU. The year started with film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which left fans unsatisfied and didn’t perform as expected on the box office. Then the Marvel shows like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Ms. Marvel have gotten mixed reviews and mostly favoring the negative side. Thor: Love and Thunder was an abomination with it becoming one of the most poorly rated Marvel film. The only rays of hope Marvel has from 2022 are Moon Knight, I am Groot, Werewolf by Night and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the last one I haven’t seen but I’m hoping it to be good.

Adding to Marvel’s troubles is the delay that the Blade movie is causing. In a new release date update from Disney, Marvel Studios has officially delayed four MCU movies across Phases Five and Six. Mahershala Ali’s Blade has been delayed nearly a year from November 2023 to September 6, 2024, while Deadpool 3 has been pushed back to November 8, 2024, Fantastic Four to February 14, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars being pushed to May 1, 2026. Additionally, the update reveals that an untitled Marvel movie has been removed from the schedule entirely, while another has been pushed to November 7, 2025.

What is interesting is just because of one film, three others were delayed that tells you how important the Blade movie is to Phase 5 & 6. Moon Knight and Werewolf by Knight has exposed the MCU to monsters and supernatural but Blade is going to be decisive. If it had no impact on the other films then Blade would’ve gotten a new release date not the others. Marvel’s films are laid out in a way where each film is connected to each other or has some reveal which if interrupted with, doesn’t makes sense. One good thing is now the two new Avengers films will have a year’s breathing space between them, which was necessary. What do you think of these delays?
