Marvel's Echo: New Release Date Officially Announced for Disney Plus

Marvel’s Echo is an upcoming Marvel show which will focus on Echo aka Maya Lopez who is the adoptive daughter of the Marvel villain Kingpin. The character made her MCU debut in the Disney+ show Hawkeye that came out last year. The show focused on Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton being a mentor to Kate Bishop and allowing her to take the reigns from her. Bishop will also be a part of or possibly lead the Young Avengers. As Echo appeared in the show who has a direct connection to Kingpin Marvel was not missing out on the opportunity to officially introduce Kingpin in the MCU. You can say that Kingpin was the main villain of the show. However, his adoptive daughter is on the side of his opposition, similar to the comics where she was on the side of Daredevil.

The success of the show paved the way for Maya Lopez played by Alqua Cox to get a spin off series for herself. The official synopsis of the show show given by Disney is, “The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.” Considering the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes Marvel delayed three of its upcoming shows including Echo. A week since then and we have the official release window for the show.

Echo Coming To Disney Plus Next Year!

The Disney+ server changed the release window of Echo on the site from “Debuts on Disney+ November 29th, 2023” to “Debuts on Disney+ January 2024”. Firstly, this is the first official confirmation of the delay from Disney and thankfully they’ve provided us an update on when the show is supposed to come. Echo is now one of seven live-action MCU series that face delays to mostly unconfirmed release dates, with the other six listed below:

  • What If…? Season 2 – Christmas 2023
  • X-Men ’97 – Early 2024
  • Agatha: Darkhold Diaries – Fall 2024
  • Ironheart
  • Daredevil: Born Again
  • Wonder Man

Another interesting thing about the show is that unlike Marvel’s traditional release strategy of releasing one episode per week, all six episodes of Echo will release all at once on the said release date. The only other show to adopt this release strategy is I Am Groot that released on 10th August 2022, with all five episodes coming out on the same day. It is also believed that Echo is one of the only three Marvel shows releasing this year along with Loki Season Two and Secret Invasion.

Marvel’s Echo will premiere on Disney+ sometime in January 2024.
