Marvel Studio’s Echo was originally scheduled to be out in November. However, now The Hawkeye spinoff is set to be the first MCU project of 2024. It follows the titular character Echo/Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) and her rise to villainy as she tries to follow in the footsteps of her “Uncle,” Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Alongside Alaqua Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, the cast of Echo includes Chaske Spencer as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Cody Lightning as Cousin Biscuits, Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Devery Jacobs as Bonnie, Graham Greene as Skully, and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez.
Producer Stephen Broussard said, “[Production on ‘Echo’] is going well. It’s very different. Like, talking about Werewolf by Night to this. It’s a very different tonal sort of thing. I don’t want to say too much because there’s not a whole lot out there in the world, but it feels very grounded, it feels very spiritual in ways that feel fresh for us,” he explained. “Alaqua as the lead is incredibly compelling. I’m sort of hard-pressed to think of something that it feels like outside in the broader realm of the MCU, let alone within what we’ve done here. So stay tuned on that really cool stuff.”
Marvel Studio’s Echo Trailer and About
The trailer sees Maya Lopez struggling to communicate with a street vendor because of her deafness. The vendor in turn is rude to her and Maya’s “Uncle” Kingpin is watching the interaction from the sidelines. This trailer teases her Uncle’s influence on her and how Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin will help Maya on her path. The trailer boasts a mature and grounded tone and hence, the show is rated TV-MA. This is something fans across the globe have lauded, calling Echo’s trailer the best MCU Disney Plus trailer ever made.
Aside from that, the split second Daredevil in red suit cameo made fans lose their minds and Echo seems like something adult Marvel fans were waiting for ever since Netflix Defenders-verse got cancelled. A new era of Marvel TV is beginning and Echo will serve as the testing ground for Marvel’s upcoming mature content including Daredevil: Born Again, Blade, and others. Fans are anyways really excited to see Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), and possibly even Jon Bernthal (Punisher) return to Marvel.
“I will say very large,” Echo director and executive producer Sydney Freeland told the press when asked about Kingpin’s presence throughout the series. “Yeah. It’s one of the core relationships in the entire series, the relationship between Kingpin and Maya. And we’ll come to sort of find out that he becomes a kind of surrogate father to her,” she added. “It’s one of the core relationships in the entire series, I’ll say that much.”
