2022 gave us Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to the much underrated 2016 Doctor Strange film. While the sequel was successful on a box office level, many fans including myself found Doctor Strange 2 to be underwhelming. I think the true culprit of the film was its marketing that promised us a mind bending rather than a simple MCU story. I mean for a film titled Multiverse of Madness, the film majorly takes place only in 3-4 universes. The other universes only popped up in the 39 second long sequence at the start of the film. The film had faced some creative differences with Scott Derrickson quitting the project as he had a much darker version in mind. Then Sam Raimi took over the reigns and gave us the film we have today.
After the release, the director revealed that about 40 minutes of the film was chopped off and I was infuriated by this as to why? Were more shows in a day worth the underwhelming result? Well, what can we do? The film also promised us a taste from the horror genre. Well, we got something to say the least. However, I can say that we did get a crossover type of events with a few characters appearing played by some reputed actors which was fun to see. Although, there were many rumors that we were originally going to see a completely new comer to the MCU – Daniel Craig as Balder, however, that didn’t happen. Now, months after the film’s release, Daniel Craig breaks his on these rumors.
Was Daniel Craig Ever Going To Be Part Of The MCU?
In a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz, Daniel Craig was promoting his most latest film – Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery where Horowitz asked Craig about the circulating rumors. He asked Craig whether he was ever part of the MCU or more precisely the sequel to Doctor Strange. Craig was asked if he had ever heard of the character called Balder, the character that Craig was rumored to play. Craig hesitantly replied, “No”
However, when Horowitz addressed his direct connection to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the actor took a sip out of his mug, hid his mug and then answered with, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” We all know that Craig cannot confirm anything but Horowitz did ask Craig whether the actor will be part of the MCU? Craig responded extremely positively to this, “I would take any job if the hours were good (laughs)… sure, absolutely. Yeah, definitely.”
In a separate interview with BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb the actor completely disowned any attachment with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or Marvel. Craig stated, “It’s all rumor… I mean, I don’t know where these things come from. It’s a lot of lockdown craziness.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently available for streaming on Disney+
