Marvel Cinematic Universe is a force to be reckoned with and one thing which has made MCU so big is its shared universe crossovers and references. We see some or the other references to the greater Marvel universe in every project of MCU and that is how it has been since 2008’s Iron Man. One of the connecting ties of MCU has been Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury as he brought all these characters who we love together. Well, once again he’s done that but this time not as Nick Fury but himself.
Rhodey Returns!
A few weeks ago, we saw some set photos which leaked the return of Don Cheadle’s War Machine in Marvel’s Secret Invasion. Fans have been wanting to know more about this and waiting for a confirmation ever since. Well, it has now been confirmed by Samuel that War Machine is indeed in the series! Here’s what he said when asked about the upcoming project:
C’mon, man, you walk on the set, Emilia’s amazing… Ben Mendelsohn, he’s awesome. Don, Don Cheadle… I got Don, that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but til we did this thing, I was like, ‘We’ve never worked together.’ We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh… but we’d never worked together, and we finally [got to work together].
So, its pretty clear from this that Don Cheadle’s character is returning. Another theory around this is that War Machine might be revealed to be Skrull (shape shifters) and that’s what would really be something to look out for. In the comic’s storyline of Secret Invasion many beloved characters including Captain America were revealed to be Skrulls. While Rhodey might not have the same impact as Cap, it still would be a huge deal as he has been a member of the Avengers since years!
While this was just a theory, the return of War Machine is now confirmed and this would officially be the first time Nick Fury and War Machine will share the screen. Samuel L.
