She-Hulk Episode 1 Review – Lots of Fun But No Heart

She-Hulk gave a very brief and unclear origin for the Tatiana’s character and I am pretty sure most of us still don’t understand how she became She-Hulk. Also, we do not know how she was able to sync herself with her Hulk form so easily (something which took Bruce 10 years) or how she was able to do everything almost as good as Bruce. The science of MCU is something which has always been something fans are just supposed to believe, so we’ll believe it. Keeping the unclear science aside, the episode had another persistent Phase 4 issue – no heart.

But yeah the episode was a lot of fun although it wasn’t even close to being as funny as some of the critics hailed it to be. And yeah, the VFX of the finished product are definitely better than the trailers, however they aren’t good and are barely up to the acceptable standards. Also, the 4th wall break style of Deadpool or Fleabag, didn’t quite hit as much as it should have. But like anything in the world, it wasn’t all bad and had some sweet and fun moments which we’ll talk about in the next section.

Jennifer Walters: Attorney At Law

First of all, Tatiana Maslany is a wonderful addition to the cast of MCU and her performance, dialogue delivery, and comic timing was pretty good. Next, most stuff we saw in the trailers was seemingly from this episode itself, which is a good thing as it means the show has a few surprises in store for us. Another thing is that I absolutely adored the chemistry between Hulk and She-Hulk. From the short training and bonding moments, to sweet sibling like envy and their CGI fight, everytime both of them were on screen together, the episode was at its peak.

Finally, it was quite funny when she randomly transformed into She-Hulk in a courtroom full of people and introduced herself as “Jennifer Walters: Attorney At Law”. It was a dig at how even though, she has learned to control it, she hasn’t fully accepted her form yet. It would be quite a journey to she her go from this to She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Lastly, the interactions about Tony, Natasha and Steve really helped the viewers connect with this new MCU show and some of those interactions were really funny, while others gave us more insight into the personal lives of Tony Stark, and Steve Rogers. The episode gave a huge nod to the bond Tony and Bruce once shared, both as fellow scientists and superheroes.

Final Verdict – She-Hulk Episode 1 is a mediocre introduction to a show will can really turn out to be great if executed well. The setup provided by the episode, although unclear, is enough to get the viewers on the hype-train and see whether it takes them home or make them regret the ride.
