She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is the newest Marvel show and as tradition follows there is another superhero being introduced to us. The show is about a superhero girl Jennifer Walters who works for a Law Firm that handles superhero cases. The show from the trailer would have Hulk aka Bruce Banner trying to mentor Jennifer on how to be a good Super Hero. The show’s narrative will be mostly about how Walters will balance between being a lawyer and a Superhero. There was some backlash regarding the show’s VFX for sometime but that is now clear. The Disney+ series had its pre-screening on 16th August and critics couldn’t stop praising the series. This trend of positive reviews at pre-screenings is something the MCU is known for. She-Hulk can pull the MCU out of the creativity rut that it has been stuck in.
Especially the kind of year that Marvel has had, a win would really do good for them. Except for some genuine hits like Loki, Moon Knight, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang Chi & the Legend of Ten Rings, Phase 4 for the MCU has been a dull affair. Every now then they come up with something that we feel like could bring back the MCU charm but that ship has long crashed into the iceberg. First two episodes of She-Hulk are out and the show is definitely from the MCU content that we’ve gotten so far. While won’t say it is a great show but is is not bad either. While the first episode had a post credit scene that got everyone talking about the show, the second episode had something else – a clear Wolverine Easter Egg.
She-Hulk: MCU Acknowledging Wolverine Canon?
The 2nd episode of She-Hulk gave us quite a few surprises. Smart Hulk going to some intergalactic adventure in the space ship we saw in the first episode. Abomination breaking out of prison and featuring in the underground match we saw in Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings. This revelation definitely surprised as according to the Disney+ website the timeline of the show is sometime after Moon Knight. However, the episode’s end is suggestive that the show’s events are taking place around the same time as Shang-Chi was.
Except for these big revelations, the episode gave us another side gift. In the scene where Jennifer is surfing for new jobs, we see the sight she is on where a recommended article acts a clear Easter Egg to Weapon X aka Wolverine. If you’ve seen the episode you must be thinking I’m fooling you but that is not the case. There was a very subtle yet clear Easter Egg to Wolverine. This proves that Marvel is willing to bring the X-Men into the MCU in the near future.
The article’s title was “Man fights with metal claws in bar brawl” I mean if this sentence in not about Wolverine, the entire world is a lie an we live in the Matrix. The shoes above the article are Iron Man branded. The last X-Men reference we got in the MCU was when Kamala Khan’s powers’ origin was revealed to be mutations. Before that we got a cameo of Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
However, that was Earth 838 and not the MCU’s main timeline i.e., Earth 616. Slowly but steadily MCU is definitely acknowledging the existence of mutants. We’re desperately waiting for that moment. There is a high chance that in the upcoming Disney event D’23 Expo, Marvel president Kevin Feigi will announce the rest of the unannounced 7 titles in Phase 6’s line-up. Speaking of which based on the events of episode 2, a World-War Hulk movie or series is on the cards.
Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk, Jameela Jamil as Titania, Ginger Gonzaga as Nikki Ramos, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Amelia, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky / Abomination, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Smart Hulk, and Benedict Wong as Wong: The Sorcerer Supreme. Apart from the main cast, the Web Series also stars Josh Segarra, Jon Bass, Anais Almonte, Nicholas Cirillo, and Griffin Matthews have been cast in undisclosed roles. Drew Matthews portrays Dennis “Buck” Bukowski, while David Otunga appears as one of Walters’ dates. The character Frog Man will also appear.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s first two episode are available for streaming. The rest of the episodes will drop weekly. Every Thursday at 12.30 pm IST.
