The decline of Marvel Studios seems inevitable. They have retired all their major players who were audiences’ incentive to step into theatres. There also seems to be an ever increasing fatigue with the superhero genre that has caused further downfall of the most celebrated genre of the 2010s. If you look at the last two years, Marvel’s only successes came from superheroes that were relevant from the Infinity saga. Considering that, the one superhero that seems to be the most bankable right now is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. After his record breaking outing in 2021, we have not seen our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Well, the rumors about Spider-Man 4 are rampant and today a new update unveils the crazy ideas that the film might pack in. It appears that there are two different approaches that the film can go to while in development. Which approach is better let’s find out.

Spider-Man 4: Sony and Marvel Are At Odds!

According to credible leakster Daniel Richtman, Spider-Man 4 is extracting some heating conversations from Marvel and Sony because both the studios have wildly different conceptions of what the film is supposed to be. As expected, Sony Pictures is interested to bring back Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire for the fourth film of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

One can understand Sony’s insistence on the ex-Spidermen’s inclusion as the studio tasted much success thanks to their cameos in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Marvel Studios wants an extremely different approach for Spider-Man 4. Kevin Feigi is interested in telling a street level story with Spider-Man that doesn’t deal with anything of cosmic significance.

Feigi’s plans for Spider-Man 4 were clear as he has prepared fans for the crossover between Daredevil, Punisher and Spider-Man. Sony’s inclusion of Maguire and Garfield means that the film’s script will deal with multiversal madness, something that Marvel wants to avoid. Sony on the other hand wants to cash-in big at the box office by getting on the nostalgia express.

Feigi is interested in telling a grounded Spider-Man story but Sony wants to make it into a crossover spectacle that will bank on the fan’s emotions for their favorite Spider-Men, regardless of the material.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently available for streaming on Sony Liv.
