Even though Spider-Man: No Way Home had a few narrative problems and many elements which were simply there for fan service, the film was one of the best theatre experiences of my life. It was the highest grossing film of 2021 with $1.9 Billion worldwide and no other Phase 4 Marvel has been able to replicate these numbers. Naturally, there is another sequel in the making. The new film is supposed to have a grounded story unlike the first three movies which were relatively mystical and showcased larger world adventures. As we expected, Marvel recently renewed its contract with Sony to keep using Spider-Man and today we have new rumors about the plot of Spider-Man 4.
Spider-Man 4: No Kingpin?
Vincent D’Onofrio who played Kingpin in Netflix’s Daredevil and Disney Plus’ Hawkeye had previously mentioned that he was very interested in starring opposite Tom Holland. Considering that as well as the update that Marvel isn’t going for a Venom based Spider-Man film, many rumors are circulating around the internet that Kingpin will be the new villain in Spider-Man 4. Daredevil is also rumored to star in it and that could be possible considering that his MCU debut was in No Way Home. However, in a new update from the Cosmic Circus it was revealed that Kingpin might not appear in the new Spider-Man.
Why? Yes, I understand. The reason is actually quite convincing. So you guys remember there is a Daredevil and Spider-Man animated series coming to Disney+? Yes, that series is supposed to adapt a Daredevil and Kingpin storyline so the Kingpin would by default appear in the series. Therefore, having two separate storylines with Kingpin (aka in live-action and animation) doesn’t seem right as it would look like repetition. As Spider-Man 4 is rumored to release in July 2024 and that is the same time frame where the animated series is supposed to come out.
So, if Daredevil appearing in Spider-Man is indeed true then Kingpin won’t be appearing in the film. He would rather clash with Spider-Man and Daredevil in the animated series. However, please take all this with a grain of salt as at the end of the day, they are just are rumors.
