The Marvels is the sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel, a continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the film did nothing but add to Marvel’s worries in 2023. Apart from being one of the lowest rated Marvel movies ever, the Captain Marvel sequel was also a colossal box office disaster. Made on an astonishing budget of $275 million, The Marvels only managed to scorch $205.8 million in its theatrical run. This makes the Nia DaCosta directorial MCU’s lowest earning venture. Who can expect that the sequel to a billion dollar movie will turn out to be a box office bomb? Ahem..ahem… looking at you Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Jokes aside, this has really caused a dent in Marvel’s treasury. Which is why a week into the new year, Marvel has come out and announced the digital and physical media release of the film. When Will The Marvels Have Its Physical Release?
Movies Anywhere has revealed that The Marvels will be available on physical formats like DVD and Blu-ray from February 13th, 2024. Almost a month after its online release date – January 16th, 2024. The film premiered in theatres on November 10th, 2023 which means that Marvel Studios took 95 days to launch the film on physical formats despite its underwhelming box office performance. MCU’s other two releases Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had similar physical media release timelines:
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: 87 days (Theatrical release – February 17th, 2023 & Physical media release: May 16th, 2023)
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: 89 days (Theatrical release – May 5th, 2023 & Physical media release: August 1st, 2023)
Also, based on the physical media release date, we can certainly predict the streaming debut of the Marvel venture on Disney+. Both Ant-Man 3 and GOTG Vol. 3 had their streaming release a day after they were available on DVD and Blu-ray formats. Meaning, The Marvels will start streaming on Disney+ from February 14th, 2024, on Valentine’s Day. Overall, The Marvels’ physical copies comes with the following special features:
