The Marvels is Marvel’s last release of the year. The film has had its fair share of production issues but everything now seems to be on track. The Brie Larson starrer is the sequel to the 2019 MCU blockbuster Captain Marvel. The film already bears the tag of being the 4th most expensive to be produced by the MCU despite being the shortest Marvel film ever. Where did the money go? The early reviews and reactions after embargo lift-up were decent, it was just another MCU film, nothing new or exciting about it. However, it appears the audience is far more disappointed in the film than the critics. In a cinematic universe that consists of She-Hulk, Ant-Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Eternals, The Marvels has gotten the worst audience score in the studio’s history.
The Marvels Is Getting More Hate Than She-Hulk!
CinemaScore is one of the leading review aggregator websites that calculates their audience score with an average of ratings from moviegoers as they leave the theatre. This means that these ratings are based on the very first reaction of an audience member as soon as the given film ends. In MCU’s 15 year long history, only six of their films including The Marvels have gotten a rating below A- in this rating system. The Marvels has secured a B audience rating from CinemaScore after its theatrical debut.
The Nia DaCosta directorial has tied with 2021’s Eternals and 2023’s Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania for the worst CinemaScore audience rating in the history of MCU.
