The Marvels is Marvel’s last release of the year. The film has had its fair share of production issues but everything now seems to be on track. Following the sequel’s November 10th release date, we got a recent report from Cryptic HD Quality, who has successfully predicted the lengths of several Disney projects including The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka that the upcoming Marvel venture will have a runtime of one hour and 33 minutes or 93 minutes. This time was further confirmed by another scooper, CanWeGetSomeToast who wrote that the movie is “all killer, no filler.” Making it the shortest Marvel film ever. However, despite this minuscule runtime The Marvels is one of the most expensive Marvel film ever.
Why Is The Marvels So Expensive Despite The Short Runtime?
A new report from Forbes revealed the official budget for The Marvels. The film is supposed to cost over $274.8 million to make. This makes it one of the most expensive MCU films to date. As mentioned, this comes off as a a surprise because for a film having a length of only around 100 minutes that is a lot of money. Please remember this runtime is not official yet. However, if one is to speculate then the high cost is likely due to the extensive VFX work that will go into bringing it to life.
The report from Forbes also mentioned the United Kingdom government gave Disney a $55 million subsidy while making the film, bringing the total amount spent on The Marvels down to around $220 million. This $274.8 million budget makes The Marvels the fourth-expensive movie in the entirety of the MCU. Although, to be fair Captain Marvel (2019) was a billion dollar affair so one can expect Marvel to invest heavily in the sequel. But if I’m being honest the 2019 film was successful only because it was a lead up to Endgame which had immense hype.
