With Thor: Love & Thunder, director Taika Waititi tried to replicate the Ragnarok magic in a story that didn’t support it. The film suffered from conflicting tones, weak screenplay and over all lack of flair. So it was a bummer for fans that Thor’s story might end on such a note, as he may appear in other films but not get an another solo film. The previous Thor movies are considered to be the bottom barrel of the MCU, except for Raganrok. It seems like Thor movies will always be mediocre. Thor (2011) is deemed 77% fresh by Rotten Tomatoes and has an IMDb rating of 7/10. Thor: The Dark World is deemed 66% fresh by Rotten Tomatoes and it has an IMDb score of 6.8/10. Thor: Ragnarok is 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and has an IMDb score of 7.9/10.
Love & Thunder is 63% and 6.2/10 on IMDb. So you get it, the newest Thor film is the worst Thor film. Although, it doesn’t have to the last, at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder we saw “Thor will return” so does that mean Thor 5 is in the works? Let’s see what Taika Waititi has to say about it.
Thor 5: Taika Waititi Opens Up on His Future At Marvel
In a new interview with Inverse, director Taika Waititi recapitulated how he needs to take a break from these movies, referring to his time working within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Further he also added about Chris Hemsworth and Marvel getting in apparent talks about making a fifth Thor film. It has to be seen whether Hemsworth comes onboard for the fifth Thor film. Meanwhile, Waititi continues his break from Marvel as the filmmaker concluded with, “It’s a very draining process working on these films for two and a half years and nonstop.”
Thor 5 hasn’t been officially announced but like I mentioned above, Marvel has already told us “Thor will return”. Waititi isn’t involved with the project now but last year he did mention what he’d like to do with a fifth Thor movie, “What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome,” Waititi explained in the book Thor: Love and Thunder: The Official Movie Special, also noting he wanted to see a more powerful villain than Hela. “I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”
Let me know who you want to direct Thor 5? The film doesn’t have a release at the time of writing.
