Thor 5

With the MCU currently struggling, Kevin Feigi is searching for projects that might revitalize the studio. None of the new superheroes are working so I guess it is time to callback some old folks. It has been sometime that I’ve been hearing about Marvel wanting to make Thor 5. Even after the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, despite mediocre reception everyone was optimistic about Thor 5. At the end of the film, Marvel mentioned that “Thor will return.” When Chris Hemsworth was asked about it, the actor said he’d comeback if director Taika Waititi was returning as well. We all know after Taika Waititi’s recent comments, it is clear that he won’t be returning for Thor 5. However, it appears that doesn’t change anything for Marvel as the studio is going all in for Thor 5, with Hemsworth reprising his role under a new director.

Thor 5 Will Have a Darker Tone!

Thor Love and Thunder Streaming and Home Release Date Announced (Disney Plus)!

According to industry insider @DaneilRPK, Marvel Studios wants to make Thor 5 quickly. Not just that, the studio intends the film to have a darker tone. This intention itself suggests that the studio is moving away from the “Waititi years” of funny Thor and maybe reprise Kenneth Branagh’s well intentioned but stern Thor. However, the studio isn’t seeking Branagh to helm the film. Marvel is eyeing a new face for Thor 5 – Gareth Edwards. If you’re not familiar with the name then let me refresh your memory.

Edwards has been behind some of the biggest movies of Hollywood including 2014’s Godzilla and 2018’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Recently, the director has been in the headlines for a helming an original IP sci-fi film costing $80 million. A rare sight in Hollywood. The film was critically praised but didn’t do well at the box office with only $104 million to its name. It is encouraging to see Marvel Studios seeking out a bold director just after he has had a box office failure.

If Edwards decides to come onboard for the film, my faith in this venture will be restored. The Thor franchise has seen this before, it was struggling after two films but then a visionary director comes along and turns things around. It has happened before, it might happen again. With Edwards’ definitive vision and this new dark tone, Thor 5 might just be the film Marvel needs in this time of despair.

Let me know who you want to direct Thor 5? The film isn’t officially announced at the time of writing.
