Thor Love and Thunder Sees $143 Million Box Office Opening + Elvis, Jurassic World Dominion, Top Gun Maverick

Thor: Love and Thunder is newest Marvel film and the second Marvel film of the year. The film is the 4th edition to Thor franchise and marks the return of Taika Waititi in the director’s chair and Natalie Portman’s return as Jane Foster. The film is made on a gigantic budget of $250 Million. This makes it one of the most expensive films ever made. However, the Chris Hemsworth film was always set to make much more than that. The films reactions and reviews seem mixed and narrowly leaning towards the negative side. Check out our review of Thor: Love & Thunder here. That being said, the film’s box office trends suggests it is unaffected by the reviews.

The film released a day prior in India and it opened with Rs.18.9 Crore, making it the 5th highest opening for a MCU film in India. The film over the week has collected Rs.47.3 Crore. That is about $6 Million from India already. We’d predicted the box office performance of Love & Thunder. Let’s see if we were correct.

Thor: Love and Thunder Box Office Collection

Thor Love and Thunder Deleted Scenes Descriptions Revealed

After its worldwide release on 8th July the film earned has opened with $143 Million at the domestic Box Office. The added another $42.1 Million to its kitty to reach those figures. The film had already earned $29.5 Million through previews on Sunday. This is the 12th best opening for a MCU title after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s $146.5 Million. The first Marvel film this year, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opened with $187.4 Million and it ended its domestic run with $411 Million.

Which is decent. So will Thor: Love & Thunder have the same fate or can it defy the odds as it is the only crowd pleaser until DC’s Black Adam hits theatres on October 21st. The global cume according to Disney is around $302 Million, just as we’d predicted. Given the negative word of mouth regarding the film, it is possible that Love & Thunder may only earn possibly just as much as Thor: Ragnarok ($864 Million). That would be disappointing but it will still be a Box office success.

Marvel movies are always predicted to have big openings given its fan-base but if the movie’s quality is in question it often doesn’t hold on to the promise of Box Office success based on the opening.

Minions: The Rise of Gru Box Office Collection

After the bombastic opening of $202 Million, the Despicable Me sequel eyes to maintain its overwhelming success. Adding the recent addition of $45.5 Million, the new domestic cume of Minions: The Rise of Gru after ten days in $210 Million. Mighty impressive right? Making it the first animated film since Frozen II in 2019 to do so. The film did take quite a significant drop from last weekend nearly -57%. However, this drop is similar to the 2015’s Minions.

Barring the domestic collection, the film has made $123 Million over the Fri-Mon debut that puts its global cume to $399.9 Million. Meaning it’ll surpass Sing 2’s $402 Million collection by tomorrow. That’ll make the film the biggest animated worldwide grosser since Frozen II that collected $1.445 Billion. If the film has a run akin to Minions that will land the film at around $325-$335 Million. The figures do show the similarities in box office trends of both films.

With Thor: Love & Thunder taking the limelight it has dented quite a bit of the film’s Box office collection. Check out Minions: The Rise of GRU reviews here.

Jurassic World: Dominion Box Office Collection

Jurassic World: Dominion is in its fifth weekend. Check out our review of Jurassic World: Dominion here. Given the heavy competitors like Thor: Love & Thunder Minions: The Rise of Gru and surprisingly Top Gun: Maverick, it is safe to assume the film is not doing well. Add to that the unanimous critical disproval to the film. The film added another $8.41 Million to its account which is a 49% decline from last weekend. The film was made on an hefty budget of $185 Million.

Given the recent announcement of the film coming to PVOD this coming Thursday, the film is supposed to retire soon. The film’s overall domestic cume is $350 Million in 31 days. Even though the film will be out of the theatres soon, it should easily eye a solid $370 Million domestic collection and a current worldwide cume to $876 Million, the film should definitely eye around $925 Million. The film isn’t a Box Office failure in any shape or form.

Although, it is definitely disappointing for a franchise closer to be so underwhelming even though it brings back the OGs from Jurassic Park. They couldn’t replicate the No Way Home magic.

Elvis Box Office Collection

Warner Bros. critically acclaimed film that surrounds around the life of the King of Rock & Roll- Elvis is still making rounds at the Box Office. It is definitely being crushed by the crowd pleasers but it seems to have attracted some audience away from them. Check out our review of Elvis. The Baz Luhrmann film earned another $11 Million in its third weekend. This is a -40% drop since last week. The film has a domestic cume of 91.122 Million in its 17 days run

The film’s Worldwide Collection has reached $155.1 Million. The Baz Luhrmann film was made on a budget of $85 Million so the Box Office collection is fairly decent. The film is supposed to arrive HBO Max anyways after its 45 day theatrical run. So this Box Office collection is a good add on, especially when this film is mainly supposed to be Warner Bros. ticket to the Oscars. Most likely, Production Design and Best Actor.

Top Gun: Maverick Collection

Right, so the biggest the surprise and arguably the best film of the year is currently looking invincible. The film has defied all odds to cruise through 2022 and emerge as the biggest winner. Check out our review of Top Gun: Maverick. The Tom Cruise and Miles Teller starrer and Top Gun sequel has earned another 15.5 Million in its 7th Weekend. The film was made on a budget of $170 Million and it looks ridiculous against the Box Office collection of $597 Million. that is just the domestic collection. The film did suffer a -40% decline though.

The film’s 7th weekend collection is the third best ever, just lacking behind Titanic and Avatar. The film’s global cume stands at $1.1836 Billion, that means it is the 22nd Highest grossing film ever. The film will definitely cross the $1.2 Billion threshold soon and clear $600 Million landmark on the domestic Box Office as well. The film is supposed to beat the $620 Million of The Last Jedi and $623 Million of The Avengers. By doing so the film will enter the prestigious Top 10 Highest grossing movies of all time at the domestic Box Office.

Globally it still stands a chance at $1.3 Billion but that looks daunting as of now but you never know. The film has defied every prediction of it until now so might as well do this as well. Also, check out its review roundup here.
