Thor: Love and Thunder is one upcoming MCU Phase 4 film that fans have been impatiently waiting for. It will be the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fourth one in the Thor franchise. Thor is the only MCU superhero to receive a 4th standalone installment and we expected nothing less from the character. After receiving a massive power boost in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, Thor was reduced to a fat underpowered God in Avengers: Endgame. So, apart from a fitness montage, this is what we are going to see from Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder Returning Characters
Obviously, Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, along with his friends Korg, Miek, and Valkyrie will all return. Apart from this, his only surviving friend from the good old days, Lady Sif is all to reappear. She was last seen in Thor: The Dark World and made a brief cameo in Disney Plus’ Loki.
That aside, it was confirmed that Natalie Portman will return as not just Jane Foster, but as Jane Foster Thor! She’ll take on the role of The Mighty Thor as she did in the comics. Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster is also set to return in Thor: Love and Thunder. Also, Matt Damon, Sam Neil, and Luke Hemsworth will return as the Asgardian actors from Thor: Ragnarok. As you might remember, they played the role of Loki, Odin, and Thor respectively in a silly theatre play that Loki created in Ragnarok.
Thor: Love and Thunder Guardians of the Galaxy
Thor was last seen leaving Earth with his new friends, the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers: Endgame. So, it has been confirmed that all the guardians minus Gamora will make an appearance in Thor 4. Possibly, their role might be minimal, and they might just drop Thor off to “someplace”. Thor developed a special bond with Rocket Raccoon and Groot during the events of Infinity War. So, it comes as no surprise that GOTG will return in Thor 4.
Thor 4 – Zeus The God of Sky and Thunder
Zeus is one character who needs no introduction to most of you. From cinema to games, and from comics to literature, Zeus is one character that as had many interpretations. His most recent interpretations include Zack Snyder’s Justice League and God of War (2018). In Thor: Love and Thunder Russell Crowe is all set to appear as Zeus. The Academy Award winning legendary actor has worked in superhero movies before (Man of Steel) and it would be great to see him as Zeus. From what we’ve heard it would be a cameo and we’ll probably see him being killed by Gorr.
Thor 4 – Gorr The God Butcher
Gorr is one of the most fearsome supervillain in the world of Thor. As his name suggests his mission is to kill all the Gods he can, hence the Zeus thing mentioned above. Obviously, all that will lead him to Thor, the God of Thunder in Norse mythology as well. This is probably where Jane will lift a fresh made Mjolnir to become the new Thor and team up with Odinson to defeat Gorr. Gorr will be played by Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and will be the big bad of the film.
Thor 4 – Beta Ray Bill (Unconfirmed)
Beta Ray Bill is one of the most popular and well as the worthiest version of Thor in all of Marvel’s multiverses. This horse faced God of Thunder was all set to appear in Thor: Ragnarok before Marvel decided to cut him off. Still Beta Ray Bill had a different kind of cameo in Ragnarok as his face was engraved on Grandmaster’s Tower in Sakaar. So, Beta Ray Bill obviously exists in the world of MCU but is yet to make an official appearance. What could be a better stage for his entrance than helping his fellow Gods defeat the God Butcher? Excited? We sure are!
Thor: Love and Thunder is all set to hit the theatres on July 8, 2022.
