Thor: Love and Thunder Hercules

Avengers: Endgame gave a satisfying end to all the OG Avengers except for Thor and Hawkeye. While Hawkeye got his own series, Thor on the other hand continues his story in Thor: Love and Thunder. This film made Thor the first Marvel superhero to get his 4th solo movie. After Thor: Ragnarok’s success and critical acclaim, everyone was expecting its sequel to be amazing as it was directed by the same guy – Taika Waititi. However, the film got mixed reviews since its premiere and as the days have gone by and the film has opened to audiences those opinions have drastically changed as the film is now being considered one of the worst films in the entire MCU.

As the film’s box office run is running out of fuel, Marvel has announced the streaming date for the film. Recently we got updates on the extra featurettes that we’ll be getting in the Blu-rays and DVDs. We even got to see the concept art of Grandmaster’s deleted scene and alternate end art concept. However, today we have something different. The film had one post credit scene which featured Zeus’ son Hercules. While many have tried to decode what the post credit scene meant as the future of the Thor franchise is in question. While the scene itself wasn’t confusing but its implications were. However, now we have the scene’s meaning from the writer of the film.

Thor: Love and Thunder Writer Explains the Post Credit Scene!

Thor: Love and Thunder’s post credit scene showed injured Zeus (previously assumed dead) recovering from Thor’s assault through his Thunderbolt. As he is recovering he is talking or rather convincing someone off-screen that God of Thunder Thor is a menace and needs to be discarded. At the end of his lines he asks his son to go deal with Thor. Then we cut see the might Hercules played by Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein. Taika Waititi, the film’s director and co-writer explained in a session with Upprox about this particular scene.

Waititi said, “Kevin really wanted him to do it, and yeah, Brett’s amazing. He’s great and I don’t know if that’s to do with Thor, or if it’s to do with how that will develop. Because, obviously, Hercules, there’s a character from the books as well. And so, yeah, this will be interesting to see because Kevin, he’s obviously the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So I’m curious to find out myself  and it was such a cool moment in the cinema where it played, that people went nuts. They were so excited.”

As suspected this scene wasn’t originally planned as Kevin Feigi came up with the idea of it and decided to keep it. For this scene to make sense Waititi had to change Russell’s Crowe’s Zeus’ character arc. While Waititi himself doesn’t know how this post credit scene is going to make scene in the MCU in the long run if Thor 5 doesn’t happen. However, he is sure that Kevin Feigi has an idea for that too and this post credit scene won’t go to waste in the upcoming phases of the MCU.

The film marks the return of regular players in a Thor film and some new entries – Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Taika Waititi, , Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Vin Diesel and Christian Bale. The film is directed by Thor: Ragnarok fame Taika Waititi. He also co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Thor: Love and Thunder is available for streaming on Disney+ and as physical media it will be available for purchase from 27th September 2022.
