Marvel’s Wonder Man began shooting last month with Ben Kingsley reprising his iconic role of Trevor Slattery on the sets of the show. We got some set photos of the legend in action as well. Due to the WGA strike the production of the series is for now halted. We know very little about this Marvel property and considering that the show most likely will not contribute to the Multiverse saga in any way shape or form the under-hype makes sense. However, I think fans should get excited considering the talent behind the camera for the show- James Ponsoldt of The Spectacular Now and Shrinking as well as The Photograph’s Stella Meghie. Shang Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is developing the series along with Brooklyn Nine Nine writer-producer Andrew Guest. While Guest will be the head writer of the series, Cretton is set to act as an executive producer to the series and possibly also direct a few episodes. Despite the series’ being stuck in production Marvel has released its first plot synopsis.
Wonder Man’s Synopsis Is Very Vague!
The Hollywood Reporter has reported a new synopsis of the series released by Marvel. The synopsis reads as follows, “The series gives a superhero’s perspective on the entertainment industry, centering on a Hollywood stuntman and actor trying to make it big in the movies.” This means the show is directly taking inspiration from the comics as our titular character worked in Hollywood and starred in films in Earth 616. Another rumor floating around is regarding casting, apparently Ed Harris will play the potential villain like an agent.
Wonder Man is one of the oldest characters in Marvel’s long history, and was first introduced in 1964 in an early issue of Avengers. The character named Simon Williams was created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, and was initially introduced as a supervillain who fought the Avengers. Reports suggests the project is in early stages of development and if everything goes well the series could begin filming in late 2023. Additionally, actors Werner Herzog, Bob Odenkirk, and Ed Harris are all rumored to be circling roles in the Disney+ series.
Wonder Man doesn’t have a release date yet.
