Wonder Man

Marvel has found a formula of introducing new characters and connecting them with the audiences and then adding them into crossover events. Along with all these projects Marvel is also developing and adding one of their oldest superheroes into the mix – Wonder Man. Marvel’s panel at the San Diego Comic Con revealed a lot of upcoming content however, it did not address their new Wonder Man series that is already in development. So either the series is planned after Phase 6 i.e., Phase 7 or it is one of the six unannounced projects in Phase 6. Both possibilities are likely as the series does seem to take a lot time in development. We know extremely little about the series, for the longest time we didn’t know who plays the lead character. Now we know it is Yahya Abdul Mateen II.

For those of you who haven’t heard of him and are thinking he is the male counterpart of Wonder Woman, well he is not. Their name is the only thing they’ve in common. The last update we got was that Ben Kingsley would return in the series as Trevor Slattery. Other then that we have nothing until today. The show has added another member to its cast.

Lauren Glazier Join Wonder Man Series!

Wonder Man Marvel Film Gets a Working Title!

As the show is reported to start filming in next few months, the show has added Mindhunter star Lauren Glazier in an unknown role. The series will be directed by The Spectacular Now and Shrinking’s James Ponsoldt and The Photograph’s Stella Meghie. Shang Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is developing the series along with Brooklyn Nine Nine writer-producer Andrew Guest. While Guest will be the head writer of the series, Cretton is set to act as an executive producer to the series and possibly also direct a few episodes.

Wonder Man has actual appeared in the MCU previously. Not explicitly but in the form of easter eggs, In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn had hidden many Wonder Man Easter Eggs by adding posters of Simon Williams played by Nathan Fillion. We know all that was done for a joke but we still don’t have an idea as to who will play Wonder Man.

“[Wonder Man will] be definitely influenced by the comics. One of the things that we’re excited about it is that it’s going to feel very unique. It’s not going to feel like anything you’ve quite seen in the MCU before,” Broussard shared. “And the kind of stories we can tell on Disney+, which has been fun. Like streaming, serialized storytelling is a totally different muscle. So, we’re having a blast making that one.”

Wonder Man is one of the oldest characters in Marvel’s long history, and was first introduced in 1964 in an early issue of Avengers. The character named Simon Williams was created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, and was initially introduced as a supervillain who fought the Avengers. Reports suggests the project is in early stages of development and if everything goes well the series could begin filming in late 2023.

Wonder Man doesn’t have a release date yet.
