Spider-Woman Madame Web

Another addition to Sony’s Venomverse or whatever they call it would be Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web. Aaron Taylor-Joy’s Kraven the Hunter would also some dynamism to the franchise as for now it is very much saturated with Venom movies, which let us face it are deteriorating with every new installment. Hopefully, the new anti-heroes would make the franchise more interesting and won’t contribute to the superhero fatigue amongst audiences which is already pretty high. Well that is certainly a discussion to have once the movie is out and there is a lot of time before we do that. For now, the updates regarding the film are sparse. We know that the principal photography is done. Every month we get some leaks or the other and today we finally have confirmation on which character will Sydney Sweeney will play.

Madame Web: Spider-Woman Casting Finally Revealed!

The news broke out because of one man who supposedly always leaks almost everything about Hollywood movies. Reputed industry insider, Jeff Sneider was recently on The Hot Mic podcast where he revealed that sources have informed him that Sydney Sweeney will be portraying the character of Spider-Woman in the upcoming Madame Web film. One important thing to note the leakster revealed that the Euphoria star would play the second Spider-Woman also known as Julia Carpenter.

The news of Sweeney being Julia Carpenter was first reported on by The Cosmic Circus back in August 2022. This information has not been confirmed by Sony Pictures. If rumors are to be believed and Sneider’s comments are taken seriously then Sweeney won’t be the only Spider-Woman in this film. She’d be joined by Cassandra Webb, Matie Franklin, and Anya Corazon.

Madame Web was created by late writer Dennis O’Neil. The original Madame Web — real name Cassandra Webb — first appeared in 1980’s Amazing Spider-Man #210. The mantle of Madame Web was later taken up by Julia Carpenter, who is perhaps best known for being the second Spider-Woman. Created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck, Julia first appeared as Spider-Woman as part of the Secret Wars limited series in 1984. Julia became Madame Web in 2010’s Amazing Spider-Man #637 following the death of Cassandra Webb.

The film stars Dakota Johnson, as well as fellow co-stars Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts and most recently Severance’s star Adam Scott. The film is to be directed by S.J. Clarkson and the screenplay of the film is written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, with a previous draft having been penned by Kerem Sanga.

Madame Web is slated to release on 16th February 2024.
