Silk, the marvel Korean-American female superhero project is in development for a long time with ‘Into The SpiderVerse’ creators Lord and Miller. Silk is supposed to be a live-action series set in the SSU (Sony’s Spider-man Universe) and reported to debut on Amazon Prime Video.
What is Silk About?
Though the plot of the series is currently under wraps, according to the Marvel comics Cindy Moon aka Silk is a Korean-American Superhero who gets bitten by the same spider that bit Spider-Man. Her powers were similar to Spider-Man, but she possess significantly less superhuman-strength than him. Silk is an intriguing project to be made by Sony and seems like with the Spider-Verse makers at the helm its a big win for the studio if done right.
Current Development and Project State
According to Phil Lord and Chris Miller interview with Deadline’s Crew Podcast, the project is still in initial phases and currently no actors were cast. Phil Lord said the following about the project:
“We’re developing all that stuff with great care and there’s a really exciting start for Silk. It’s coming along. There’ll be news someday soon.”
Apart from the live-action series of Silk, there’s also an animated film as a Spin-off of Into the Spider-verse, focusing on three generations of crime-fighting spider-related characters and Silk is reportedly appears alongside Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen. The creative duo also gave update on the long awaited sequel to Into the Spider-Verse which recently suffered a delay and scheduled to release on June 2, 2023. Lord said the following on the delay of Into The Spider-Verse 2:
“Yeah, there was a moment where, ‘We could try to get it out at the original date and it would be fine,’ but the expectations for this film is that its going to be – it has to be as groundbreaking and as special and as wonderful as, I think, the first one was. So we thought ‘Let’s not try and rush it. Let’s make it good. Let’s make it great. Let’s make every scene be its best self and not just a thing we’re doing to get it out on time.”
Silk MCU Connections
Cindy Moon appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming, portrayed by Tiffany Espensen, as a classmate of Peter Parker. She also returns in a small cameo in Avengers: Infinity War, when Ned creates a distraction to help Peter. But the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is completely separate from that of MCU and is expected to cast a new actor for the role.
