Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Breaks A Major Box Office Record

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ’s performance in the second week hasn’t disappointed anyone. In fact, the hold of the sequel over the audience is phenomenal. The film continued to perform strong in its second week, hitting $226 million domestically and $390 million globally and those numbers aren’t just good. They’re record breaking. The sequel hasn’t been in theatres for more than two weeks and it has crossed the lifetime collection of its predecessor. Into the Spider-Verse was made on a budget of $90 million and it earned $384 million. Across the Spider-Verse is made on a slightly bigger budget of $100 million and has already gone way past that number and it is not done yet.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Is A Box Office Juggernaut For Animated Films!

While many highly anticipated have failed to kick start the summer box office, Spider-Verse on the other hand had an absolutely electrifying opening and the sequel could not have had a better run. Many are also calling it the best movie of the year. The film has completed a month in theatres and as it is at the end of its box office run now that the big summer releases are afoot, the sequel has broken one major record. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse passed $600 million at the worldwide box office, breaking the record for the highest-grossing film in Sony Pictures Animation history. To date, Spider-Verse 2 has earned $607 million globally, swinging past the studio’s previous record holder, The Smurfs, at $563 million.

For further context, Across the Spider-Verse hasn’t topped any of the live-action Spider-Man films, trailing 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 by about $100 million.
