Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been through a lot of problems. The sequel as we know was set to release in April 2022 but was delayed. It is likely that these problems factored in to the decision of delaying the film to late 2022 but then it was once again delayed to 2023 and at the time it was reported because production was moving slower than what was anticipated but a new rumor also suggested that these delays maybe to rope in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man into the film as a cameo. Sony and their obsession to get Tom Holland in everything…. Well, that is a different matter but there is a significant bump in budget. Into the Spiderverse was made on a budget of $90 million but Across the Spiderverse is made with at least $100 million. Along with the huge budget, the film’s runtime is also record breaking.
Why is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse So Long?
Cryptic4KQual is a scooper who has recently given us an update about the industry. The scooper has always been a reliable source of information when it comes to the runtime of unreleased films. Apparently, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse has become the longest major Hollywood animated film ever with a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes. The film beat the previous record holder- Consuming Spirits with a gap of 4 minutes as the film had a runtime of 2 hours and 16 minutes. The full list of the longest American-made animated movies can be seen below:
- Consuming Spirits – 2 hours, 16 minutes
- The Lord of the Rings – 2 hours, 12 minutes
- I am Nightmare – 2 hours, 8 minutes
- Fantasia – 2 hours, 6 minutes
- Heart String Marionette – 2 hours, 1 minute
If this rumor is indeed true then, Across the Spiderverse will become the third longest Spider-Man films ever made. The longest of course being Spider-Man: No Way Home. The full list can be seen below:
