Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a new Sony movie that is in the Spider-Man mythos but not part of the live-action Sony Spider-Man Universe. It is the sequel to Sony’s Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse. That film came out in 2018 and was a huge success. The film was a reminder that Sony still remembered how to create a great Spider-Man movie. Because after Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, it felt like they had forgotten something that they had once. The first film was made on a budget of $90 Million and it made $375.5 Million on the Box Office. It currently holds the rating of 8.4/10 on IMDb and a 97% Fresh rating on rotten Tomatoes. The film even grabbed the Best Animated Film at the Academy Awards.
After enjoying such a dream run with the film, Sony was happy to greenlit the sequel. Sony had released a new trailer for the sequel sometime last year, I think it was attached to the No Way Home film. The new trailer shows Miles Morales taking on another fun action adventure with Gwen Stacy that will involve Earth 2099. The look of the film is slightly amended but the aesthetic is still the same. We’d already gotten the teaser from Sony, and today they’ve treated us with the film’s first official trailer!
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Trailer Is Fantastic!
The trailer for Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse’s trailer shows how Miles Morales is not feeling the same after his adventures with the Multiverse this is of course in reference. We then see Miles getting some counselling, however we all know once a hero goes out on an adventure it is very difficult for him to return. The same goes with our Spider-Man. I like how they’ve used the concept of Hero with a Thousand Faces as all the enemies that he will face in this adventure are variants of him.
The sequence in the trailer that showed Spider-Woman and both out Spider-Men fighting their different variants who are evil apparently. I love how the dialogue, “We were supposed to be the good guys” and then “Not all of us”, echoes in the background. Miles, Peter and Gwen all reunite once again. The animation style seems to have improved from the original but the aesthetic is still the same. Honestly, I’m not someone that enjoys animated movies but I’m excited for this one.
