Disney Plus’ Star Wars shows seem to have given a sort of rebirth to the franchise. With fresh new content, well written storylines and loads of fan service, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have managed to recreate the magic of Star Wars. Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian (Din Djarin) has become the carrier of the modern Star Wars adventures. Yet Star Wars is still defined by Luke Skywalker and hence, bringing him back was inevitable. Massive spoilers for The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett follow below.
Luke Skywalker’s Return
From being the protagonist of the OG trilogy to being the master figure in the sequels, Luke has been through quite a journey. The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are set in the time period between the events of the Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. This was the time when Luke was establishing his Jedi temple and training some disciples.
That is exactly what we were shown in the last episode of the Mandalorian and episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett. Luke Skywalker portrayed by CGI Mark Hamill, was showcased adopting and training Grogu (The Child/Baby Yoda). That’s right a CGI Mark Hamill who was talking, meditating, jumping around, as if the 70’s actor. The technological advancement trend of Star Wars continues with this young Luke Skywalker created using CGI. But in the long run they’ll need a new actor to portray him.
Sebastian Stan as Luke?
Many fan casts have included Stan as Luke and it totally makes sense. Stan could portray the middle aged Luke well and he even looks the part. That aside, he has also shown a keen interest in portraying the character. He recently told Esquire “Look, it’s really kind, and never say never,” when asked about the same. The Romanian-American actor bears striking resemblance to Young Hamill and is already a part of Disney Plus’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. So yeah, never say never.
“(Jokingly) Mark Hamill is my father, you know, and he knows that, and I call him every Christmas to tell him, ‘just want you to know I’m around’. Well, if Mark Hamill calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me, then I’ll believe it, until then, I won’t believe it,” Stan said.
The actor can currently be seen as Tommy Lee in the limited series Pam and Tommy, which is streaming on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus in the UK.
