Star Wars Reveals Why Ahsoka Wouldn’t Train Grogu

Star Wars finally reveals why Ahsoka refuses to train Grogu. The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5 (Chapter 13: The Jedi), brought Ahsoka and Din Djarin together under the notion that Ahsoka would coach Grogu. However, after learning about Grogu’s past and witnessing his Force abilities, Ahsoka refuses to train Grogu. Instead, she guided them toward Tython so Grogu could find his path. He connected with Luke Skywalker and ultimately continued his Jedi training. We also found that Ahsoka walked out of her training with Sabine Wren. She has done the same with her training with Anakin. This is a consistent pattern in Ahsoka’s choices in The Mandalorian.

Ahsoka’s Commitment Issues in Star Wars

Ahsoka has remained detached ever since the Clone Wars. She walked away not only from her master but also from her Padawan. After making a promise to Din to train Grogu in exchange for his help in capturing Morgan Elsbeth, she refuses to keep the promise. Ahsoka passed Grogu off to someone else to help him find his path. This shows both detachment and a fear of commitment on Ahsoka’s part. She’s certainly been through a lot. She survived Order 66 and lost many close ones. And over the years, her inability to commit to any endeavor has displayed her deep-rooted fear.

This made it difficult for Ahsoka to take responsibility for another Padawan. She had already walked away from Sabine Wren. With so few Jedi left in the galaxy, taking on the responsibility of training someone who has been under the guidance of experienced masters was overwhelming for Ahsoka. Given her pattern throughout The Mandalorian, it’s not surprising that she walked away again.

Grogu’s Attachment with Din

When Ahsoka witnessed what Anakin went through, she felt guilty for walking away and not being there for him. Since then, Ahsoka has been afraid of doing the same to others. So, when Ahsoka saw the attachment between Grogu and Din and vice versa, the fear came back to the surface. She wasn’t willing to fail Grogu the way she failed her master, Anakin.

In The Book of Boba Fett, season 1, episode 6 (From the Desert Comes a Stranger), Ahsoka’s fear is revealed in a conversation with Din. Mando asked Ahsoka why she was okay with Luke Skywalker training Grogu when she refused to do it. Ahsoka insists it was his choice, not something she could control. It reveals she wouldn’t have trained him if she had the choice again. Ahsoka was scared to experience her past failures and losses all over again.

As the story of Ahsoka continues, we will find more parallels between what happened with Sabine and Ashoka’s refusal to teach Grogu.
