Amazon God of War Nails Casting Once Again With Thor, Odin, Mimir, Sindri, and Brok Fans React

Amazonโ€™s live-action God of War series just scored two massive casting wins, and the internet reacted instantly. Thor and Odin are officially in, and fans think the show might be building one of the strongest video game adaptation casts in recent years. The series will adapt the 2018 God of War reboot storyline and its sequel, focusing on Kratos and his son Atreus during their journey through the Nine Realms. Amazon and PlayStation Productions are backing the project, and the show is already expected to span multiple seasons.

Thor and Odin Casting Revealed for Amazon God of War

Prime Video confirmed that ร“lafur Darri ร“lafsson will play Thor and Mandy Patinkin will play Odin in the upcoming series.ย ร“lafsson is best known for Severance and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, while Patinkin is a veteran actor famous for The Princess Bride and Homeland. The casting instantly signaled that Amazon is leaning into a grounded and intimidating Norse mythology tone rather than a Marvel style superhero aesthetic.

The series adapts the modern God of War saga, following Kratos and Atreus as they navigate the Norse realms, battle gods, and explore themes of grief, fatherhood, and destiny.

Fans React: โ€œAbsolute Cinemaโ€

The reactions across X and gaming communities were overwhelmingly positive.ย Many fans praised the casting as top tier, with posts calling the lineup โ€œAbsolute Cinemaโ€ and โ€œ5 out of 5 perfection.โ€ Others said ร“lafsson looks like a Norse myth Thor rather than a Marvel hero, which is exactly what they wanted from a gritty adaptation.

On Reddit, users echoed similar excitement, calling Patinkin an amazing actor and saying the casting feels either genius or incredibly promising, with most leaning toward genius.ย Overall sentiment feels clear: fans think Amazon is cooking something serious.

God of War fans care deeply about authenticity. The Norse saga portrays Thor as brutal, intimidating, and morally complex, not a charming superhero. Casting ร“lafsson signals that Amazon understands this tone.ย Mandy Patinkin as Odin also adds prestige. Odin is a manipulative and layered villain in the games, and Patinkinโ€™s dramatic range makes him a strong fit for a cunning god king.

The casting choices suggest the show aims to respect the source material instead of reinventing it for mainstream audiences.

New Supporting Cast Is Also Perfection

Variety reports that Alastair Duncan has been cast as Mimir, Kratos’ brother in arms (quite literally). This casting marks Duncanโ€™s return to the God of War universe, having previously voiced Mimir in the 2018 God of War game as well as its sequel, God of War Ragnarรถk. And who better to play Mimir in the series than Mimir from the games himself?

Aside from Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka have been cast to play the brothers Brok and Sindri, respectively. For those unaware, Brok and Sindri are two loveable and fan favorite master smiths from the Dwarven realm of Svartalfheim, who play a crucial role in Kratos and Atreus’ quests throughout the two games.
