Amazon Prime Video is upping its game and is all set to go toe to toe against Netflix and Disney Plus. This year itself Prime is coming up with many huge projects like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Boys Season 3, and Invincible Season 2. That aside, Blade Runner 2099 TV series is also in development. Added to all this, one of the greatest game series ever made – God of War.
Amazon’s God of War TV Series
As reported by Deadline, Prime Video is in negotiations for a live-action TV series based on the God of War. The hugely popular ancient mythology-themed game won millions of hearts and buttload of Game of the Year Awards. God of War series has always been a force to be reckoned with but GOW 2018 took it to new heights. It is not too much to say that it WRECKED the world of gaming with it’s immersive storyline, interesting characters, and out of the world graphics. So, its going to be a little hard to live up to all this.
From what we have heard, series adaptation comes from The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer Rafe Judkins. Also, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will be involved as they collaborate on all Movies/TV series based on PlayStation games. So, reps for Sony and Amazon Studios will likely co-produce but have no comment as of yet.
It began with games being based on cinema but today gaming industry has become so huge that cinema is based on it. This year itself we saw the release of the movie Uncharted and a Halo TV series is also about to release on Paramount+. Now it seems to be God of War’s turn, although the game series itself is quite a visual delight. It might be really hard to produce something as good as God of War and might end up disappointing a lot of fans. But standing up to such challenges is what makes these studios stand out. Amazon seems to have developed a taste for such challenges, as LOTR:ROP is also a very risky project.
Anyways, fans its now time to put forward your fan casts for the various characters from God of War including Kratos, Zeus, and what not. Its coming and it would either be a disappointing project, or one which would go down in the history as one of the best cinematic pieces ever. There are no further details on the storyine they would assume but our bet is that it will take us to the beginning of it all, i.e., God of War (2005).
God of War Ragnarök is all set to release in 2022 and will continue the story of Kratos and Atreus.
