Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 Review – A Battle To Remember!

I mean what the hell was that?! So, much happened in this episode that never once did I take my eyes of screen. From a glorious and bloody battle to a highly catastrophic ending, this episode is probably the best thing I’ve seen on TV entire year except for The Boys maybe. The stakes of the series rose faster than viewers could contemplate and the episode ended with a huge WTF moment and a cliffhanger ending. First things first, however, let us talk about that glorious battle we were all waiting for!

Since the last 2-3 episodes this battle was being built up, and it won’t be too far fetched, should I say that it exceeded all expectations. It was full of twists and turns, and blood and gore, basically all you need from a fantasy battle. Spears were shaken, shields were splintered, a sword day, a red day, and a mount exploded! Deaathhh! Alright, so yeah, that was basically the story of this episode in our beloved Theoden King’s words. The episode began with Arondir smartly and skillfully defending the castle and ruling the orcs which bought them all a whole day worth of prep time. On the other hand, we saw Galadriel and co, almost about to reach the shores of Southlands.

All of us knew that towards the end of the battle, Galadriel and co will arrive to save the day but that didn’t go as we expected. Arondir and co suffered a huge defeat thanks to witty planning by Adar and the survivors were being picked off one by one. As a result Adar managed to extort the sword and ordered to wipe everyone out. To viewers relief this is where Galadriel and co pulled off a “Rohirrim March” and saved the day. Nah, I spoke too quickly as even though they won the battle, they lost the fight and failed miserably as Adar succeeded!

I have this newfound respect for Adar as the villain of the series, as he proved to be highly successful. Even though he got himself captured and his army defeated, all it took was one man and a bit of planning on Adar’s part to literally rain fire on Udun. So yeah, the Mount Doom has exploded and Udun will now become what we all popularly know as MORDOR! Obviously, the episode left us on a cliffhanger about the fate of our protagonists but most of them have significant plot armor so we know they are safe.

This was, quite literally, a world breaking episode from Amazon Prime and it excelled in all the technical aspects as well. From cinematography, costumes and production design, to action, VFX, and gore, this episode checked all the boxes. It is the best on screen battle I’ve experienced since Battle of Bastard from Game of Throne Season 6, and this episode will definitely go down in the history as one of the absolute best of the best! Also we got to see Arondir finally meet Galadriel, yay, and saw Halbrand getting proclaimed the King of the Southlands for like 5 minutes before its destruction.

Final VerdictAfter immense buildup in the last few episodes, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 proves to be the most rewarding TV episodes in quite a while. Not only did it manage to surpass all our expectations, but at the same time it hyped us for what’s to come and left viewers completely awestruck. This is indeed the LOTR we’ve been waiting for folks!
