The Lord of the Rings Rings of Power Early Reviews - The Next Game of Thrones

The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power is Amazon’s biggest leap in the cinematic world yet. The epic fantasy series has a lot to prove given how groundbreaking the original trilogy was. The LOTR trilogy was so epic, that even most of today’s cinema can’t match its scale, production value, and character interpretations. That is one reason why it has never been recreated nor will be. So, this 5 season prequel web series with a massive budget for $1 Billion has a tough battle ahead but it will surely be a glorious one.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Early Reactions

The Lord of the Rings Rings of Power Early Reactions

Some lucky Tolkein fans were invited to attend a special event by Amazon Prime where they were showcased some 20-30 minute footages from the show’s first season. The new show will consist of eight episodes when it arrives on 2nd September, 2022 and a teaser for the prequel series, released in February as well. The trailer defied all expectations and was so immersive and hyping, that all the doubts were knocked out of the park. Now the lucky fans who were invited by Amazon have shared overly positive reactions and here’s what they said.

Another viewer took to TikTok to share their excitement, saying that those who are ‘looking forward to the series’ will be ‘well rewarded,’ and those ‘on the fence’ should ‘put their fears to rest’. “We, as Tolkien fans, are in good hands! Above and beyond, I was absolutely blown away. I cannot wait to see more – it’s just beyond words”, he exclaimed.

Of course, these lucky viewers went to London at Amazon’s expense, met high level execs, and were given goodies and what not. Plus they are huge Tolkein fans, so it’s possible that these reactions are a bit biased. So, it’s best to wait for a few months and check out early critical reactions which might come out a week before it’s release.

Is Rings of Power, The Next Game of Thrones?

Ever since Game of Thrones ended, most people are waiting for the “next Game of Thrones” like series. People have been trying to find the next GOT in The Witcher, The Last Kingdom, and even Vikings. While Game of Thrones’ final season itself couldn’t match the GOT people liked, we are pretty sure LOTR might just be that. In my honest opinion, I liked Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy a little better than GOT. While its foolish to compare shows with one another, it definitely happens.

So, by “will it be the next GOT”, if you mean that will it provide that kind of immersive experience, VFX, characters, and a massive atmosphere? Then the answer is yes it will! With that kind of budget and source material, nothing less is expected. But LOTR isn’t a dark fantasy story with as many grey areas like Game of Thrones. Tolkein’s LOTR has a strong sense of good and evil, so if you expect dark subject matters, watch The Witcher instead or wait for House of The Dragon.

LOTR live action is a colorful fantasy world with elves, dwarves, wizards, magical beasts, orcs, and superpowered beings. And though it will have conspiracies, death, and war, its unlikely they will be presented as they are in dark fantasy cinema. That is one of the reasons we believe it will be rated PG13 and not R. So, unless Amazon plans on presenting a dark version of Tolkien’s writing, I doubt it’ll be the next “Game of Thrones” in the terms of mood and vibe. But it might be much better than Game of Thrones in terms of scale, fantasy, and technicalities with white and black characters, rather than grey ones.
