Dark Winds second episode really lives up to the hype set by its premiere debut, as the show goes on an investigative thriller mode in the second episode, with the police officers trying to find clues to solve the murder mystery. Check out our first episode review here, and of course, be warned that mild spoilers follow below.
Dark Winds Episode 2 Premise
The two police officers Leaphorn and Chee investigate the surviving witness to the Motel murders. Leaphorn also smells Chee’s secret immediately and tries to rein the young officer under his thumb. The cause of death for the victim is still unknown while officer Manuelito makes a discovery. The show also amps up it’s supernatural elements in the second episode with elements of Native Indian curses and witchcraft though it still doesn’t reveal the solid antagonist.
What is Good?
The episode 2 of Dark Winds is like a slow-burning thriller, peeling back and unraveling the mystery of the Native Indian backdrop. The story has many complex layers and the acting of the Native Indian cast is stellar so far. More mysteries were introduced into the story and flashbacks taking the story in a new direction. The cinematography and music were one of the stellar aspects. The differences between Leaphorn and Chee in their instincts and ideologies were well written. The show feels like reading a crime novel set in the 70s and the tension is well maintained throughout with great directing.
What could have been better?
The second episode gives the feeling of the plot is all over the place. This is because the story delves deeper into the Native Indian community and expands the scope. The flashback sequences could have been better developed. Some of the problems in this episode stem from it being an intermittent building block between the first and upcoming episodes, so some viewers might feel disappointed over the slow-pace. The promo for the next episode raises curiosity and it seems like the plot is getting thicker and picks up pace with action in full-swing.
