Andor Episode 7 Review – An Emotional, Gripping and Twisted Star Wars Episode

You know a quality show when you see one and the new Star Wars spin-off, Andor is surely one of them. After largely disappointing The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor has breathed a fresh air into the Star Wars Universe. Andor  Even though he was one of the largely forgotten Star Wars characters, Diego Luna’s portrayal of Cassian Andor in Rogue One was one of the film’s strongest aspects. And while the outcome of Andor’s story is known, much of his past is still a mystery and so, this live-action prequel series centers around the rebel’s dark and sinister past. Star Wars just released Andor Episode 7 and without any further ado, here’s what we think about this surprisingly good show! (Check out the all new Andor Pop action figure here!)

Andor Episode 7 Review – New Day, New Problems

So, far Andor has followed a pattern which involves two episodes of buildup and one with a massive payoff. So, after successfully completing the mission assigned by Luthen, the surviving rebels are now scattered and deal with the aftermath of the attack. The episode begins with The Empire being The Empire and issuing some ruthless orders to get situation back under control. Evidently, this is exactly what Luthen wanted i.e., to force Empire’s hand and let people see wo they truly are, so they rise up against them.

Mon Mothma doesn’t quite agree with this ideology and isn’t ready to let people suffer, however, she still chooses to support the rebellion. For that she meets an old friend and reveals her true self to him, while asking his support. Moving on, Vel has been ordered to tail and execute Andor, while Cinta makes her way out on a speeder bike. Talking about Andor, well, a lot happened to him in this episode and we’ll break it down one by one. Before that, I’d like to say that unlike Episode 1 and Episode 4, this one was quick to establish the next plot line after the explosive episode 6. Hence, it was gripping, well paced, and certainly one of the best episodes yet.

Coming to our lead Cassian Andor, he shared a few emotional and heart-breaking moments with both his adoptive mother and Bix. It seems like Bix and Andor are now done with each other and their story definitely didn’t end on a good note. On the other hand, Maarva has been inspired by the rebellion and hence chooses to stay behind while pushing Andor ahead. Fiona Shaw delivered an outstanding performance in this episode, and her heartfelt and passionate performance has really been a stand out this season. We definitely expect to see more of her, but even if we don’t she has been highly influential and has done a terrific job in elevating the quality of the show.

This also applies to the rest of the cast of Andor especially Stellan Skargard (Luthen), Faye Marsay (Vel), Genevieve O’Riley (Mon), and Anton Lesser (Partagez). All of them have done wonders with whatever little or much role they have been offered so far in each episode. This episode also showcased some internal politics within the empire, however, Dedra Meero managed to come out on top and impress Major Partagez. As for the mysterious and complicated character Syril, he has suffered a huge step down and hence, has to rebegin his journey upwards starting from a lame 9-5 desk job.

Once again, coming back to Andor, he had more things awaiting him in this episode apart from the sad goodbyes and hot baths. While making his way towards a random shop on beach, he is stopped and wrongfully charged by a guard. This involves a moment where fans totally lost their minds as the K2 droid from Rogue One made an appearance and held Andor by his neck. While it has not yet officially been confirmed that its same droid, most probably he is the beloved K-2SO droid. Anyways, episode ended with a shocking moment as Andor was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for a crime he didn’t even commit.

Final Verdict – With a gripping narrative, outstanding visuals, some genuinely emotional moments, and a massive cliffhanger ending, Andor episode 7 greeted fans with a good hour of Star Wars content. The episode was consistent with the vibe of its predecessors and even after an exceptional Episode 6, this episode didn’t feel like an inferior. So, kudos once again Lucasfilms!

The first seven episodes of Star War: Andor are now airing on Disney Plus and we’ll see you next week when we bring you our Episode 8 verdict.
