George Lucas’ precious brainchild Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in the world. Be it in box office numbers, fan following or critical acclaim, the Lucas film had garnered everything. The Dune inspired dream started in 1977 and due its to overwhelming reception, Lucas was able to make another two films. These are now considered as the Original trilogy. 22 years later a Prequel trilogy helmed by George Lucas came out and to say the least it was underwhelming. Fans were left unsatisfied but in 2015 the flame of the franchise was rejuvenated with The Force Awakens. This movie coupled with the next two culminated the Sequel trilogy to the original in 2019. These films while successful at the Box Office, lacked the fan approval and critical acclaim.
Since then the Star Wars universe was more or less transferred to Disney+, eyeing the potential of the streaming service. Shows like The Mandalorian, Boba Fett and the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi gave Star Wars fans much content to stream. While few Star Wars standalone films were there but they’re rather forgettable. Amidst all this, there is a rumor that might make the day of any Star Wars fans. The Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is in talks to star in a new show.
Star Wars – Millie Bobby Brown as Princess Leia?
According to a report by The Mirror, the Enola Holmes star along with her Father and Manager is in informal talks with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The talks can only be for Brown to be casted in an upcoming Disney+ series. A source from the report mentions about Brown’s involvement in the project.
“Millie is on Disney’s radar for the new Star Wars projects. She’s had contact with Kathleen, who is aware of her desire to feature in a movie or play a central role in one of the new TV projects for Disney Plus. The conversations are informal but there’s huge mutual respect there. The Disney executives know just how much of an icon she is already for the 10 to 30-year-old audience and what that brings in terms of appeal. She could easily take home $15m for a first film or series. And she doesn’t need to audition – it’s more a case of how the director and her bond. She has the gravitas to hold down the lead for that universe.”
For now it is unclear which character will Millie play and Lucasfilm is moving forward at a slow pace when it comes to Star Wars movies given the predicament latest installment – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Millie might star in the upcoming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew that stars Jude Law in the lead role. Or maybe Star Wars: The Acolyte that is a female led martial arts series; rumored to star Amandla Stenberg. The castings of both these shows are not complete yet and Millie may grab an important part in either.
Otherwise, she may simply get to lead her own series, given that many Star Wars series are in development. Directors like Taika Waititi are also part of the Star Wars universe now and are making their movies, Millie may star in such a film. The creators may be in discussion regarding Millie Bobby Brown’s role but the Stranger Things actor seems to have made up her mind. “Princess Leia”, Brown explained during a convention appearance in 2017, “I love Carrie Fisher and it would be amazing to carry on her legacy.”
Let me know what you think about Millie Bobby Brown’s inclusion in the franchise and which role is she most suitable for? Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently streaming on Disney+, new episode releases every Wednesday. Episode 6 will release on 22nd June 2022.
