“When Judy Hopps, a rookie officer in the Zootopia Police Department, sniffs out a sinister plot, she enlists the help of a con artist to solve the case in order to prove her abilities to Chief Bogo.” So was the premise of the 2016 Disney animated film Zootopia. Just like its wacky title, the film had a wacky central idea. Accompanied with a great cast to offer from Jason Bateman, Ginnifer Goodwin, Idris Elba, and Jenny Slate, among many other household Hollywood acting names. The film was one of the most critically acclaimed animated films because of its silliness coupled with adult humour. The mature themes that the film addressed and tackled relevant social issues was praiseworthy. The film also won the Oscar of Best Animated Film that year. Zootopia was a huge financial success as well ($1 Billion+). Now over seven years later Disney plans to make a sequel and here’s everything we know about it.
When Will Zootopia 2 Release? Who Is Cast In The Sequel?
No release date is officially announced for the sequel but there are three release dates in the studios’ calendar that fans can consider to be the possible debut dates for Zootopia 2. The three days in question are Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Wednesday, November 26, 2025, and Wednesday, November 25, 2026. All three dates are a year apart and fall exactly one day before the holiday of Thanksgiving in stateside. So, it only looks like a matter of how long will it take to develop the sequel to predict the release date.
We all know Disney is desperate for a huge animated hit, the third Frozen film feels like the perfect contender for it. We already know that both Frozen 3 and 4 are already in development at Disney. So, it is more than likely that the threequel would take up the 2024 slot, leaving the 2025 slot open for Zootopia 2 if it is developed by the time. In a recent interview, Zootopia producer Brad Simonsen revealed:
“We’re all super excited about it. And it’s a world that I was part of the first movie, and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life, to be honest. And I know that this next one’s going to take it to another level and be, as you know, as good or better than the first. So we’re super excited about that project.”
Currently we have no news on the casting front, so, officially no one is cast. However, if one were to speculate then both Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin as Officer Judy Hopps are expected to return. I even believe that Disney would be itching to put the same creative team behind this project by bringing the duo of Byron Howard and Rich Moore to helm the big-screen sequel.
There is no official release date for Zootopia 2 at the time of writing.
