HBO Max was Warner Bros. streaming platform for a while now. The service offered new films that came under the umbrella of WB productions and also aired the TV side of the business by streaming HBO shows. However, the streaming platform never launched in India, one of the biggest content consumers of the world. Warner Bros. might’ve wanted to solidify the platform’s reach in the US first before taking it to another huge market. However, the content had to reach India somehow, so a deal was struck between Disney+ Hotstar and Warner Bros. where the platform became the medium to stream HBO shows and for many years it went well until the deal ended in March 2023. The Indian audiences were furious as they didn’t have any legal way to watch HBO shows anymore and Warner Bros. dropped no hints of launching their own streaming platform in India. Well, as it turns out we can stream HBO shows on a new platform. No, unlike rumors it is not Amazon Prime. It is Jio Cinema!
HBO Max Deal – Jio Cinema Is Taking Over The World!
India’s new digital king- Jio Cinema is now growing and growing so much so that now a deal has been signed between Reliance’s Viacom 18 and Warner Bros. where all HBO shows will be available for streaming on Jio Cinema. This includes shows like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Succession, Euphoria, The Last of Us and movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. While the finances of the deal were not revealed, the sources did confirm that the deal is a “new multi-year agreement” which will start next month.
The companies did say, “HBO Original, Max Original and Warner Bros. Television series are set to premiere on JioCinema on the same day as the U.S.” For now Jio Cinema is a small player but with great acquisitions like the IPL rights till 2027 and now this new deal, Jio Cinema is taking huge strides in the streaming game. No exact date regarding the shows’ availability is shared but sources have said that the initiation would be next month
Warner Bros. Discovery’s new streaming platform – MAX will debut on May 23.
