House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. HBO is planning to re-taste the success of Game of Thrones, I mean when you have the biggest show in TV history it is quite a bummer when it ends and that too on a sour note. Even if Game of Thrones has ended, HBO plans on making money by giving fans more stories from the same universe. At the time of writing, there are seven GOT spin-offs/prequels in development. One of them being House of the Dragon. The show will focus on House Targaryen- the same house Daenerys belonged to. The show will feature the might of the Targaryens and their reign on the Seven Kingdoms until things went south.
The first season of the show is debuting on HBO and HBO Max next month and is said to have 10 episodes. The showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik intend to make at least 5 seasons. If the show plans on doing that then it has to continue to perform well HBO throughout its many seasons. However, before we fantasize about the future. House of the Dragon Season 1 has to set the standards for HBO this year. Recently HBO held the premiere for House of the Dragon in Los Angeles and today we have first reactions from people who witnessed the spectacle before all of us. Let’s see if the GOT prequel holds up to the expectations of its predecessor.
House of the Dragons Surpasses Expectations?
HBO has plenty confidence in House of the Dragon as it said that the show is already being renewed for a 2nd Season even before it has debuted. I mean considering you’re a prequel of the biggest show ever will definitely give you an advantage but this looks like an audacious move from HBO. So for a show that has such expectations from it, it better perform. HBO is planning to House of the Dragon to take the reigns from Game of Thrones to become their new flagship show. Since Game of Thrones finale, HBO has made good shows, even great shows but they weren’t able draw the number of eyeballs as Game of Thrones did. So, House of the Dragons has some huge shoes to fill. Let’s see how has it started.
Beyond honored to have been invited to #HOTDPremiere ! I can't wait for you all to see this show!!! It's a difficult task to follow up GoT but I can tell you THEY KILLED IT!! #HouseoftheDragon pic.twitter.com/BlI4CPlV3J

I did not like the last season of #GameofThrones. At all. But I’ll admit the series premiere of #HouseOfTheDragonHBO is really well done and I’ll definitely continue watching. After the episode ended they showed an extended preview of the season and looks cool. pic.twitter.com/wzuIMkZWe0

For those curious about the series, without spoilers, I can say that the thing I really dig is the fact that it still feels epic in scale and scope while telling a personal and intimate story about one family, showcasing both their love and dysfunction

The #HouseOfTheDragonHBO pilot very efficiently explains its context in relation to GoT, introduces its core characters, and lays out the central conflict of the series. It's an easy to follow premiere with vibrant colors and detailed texture. Absolutely a worthy successor so far pic.twitter.com/3lARILHfuv

I didn’t know how much I missed the #GameofThrones theme song until I heard it tonight at the #HouseoftheDragon premiere! That first episode is fantastic! Can’t wait to see what’s next. Fingers crossed it’s no repeat of the final season of GoT. @BlackGirlNerds #hbo #HBOMax pic.twitter.com/8EZYC8iLY8

I think the first episode of HOTD will easily rope curious fans back in after the rocky finish of GOT. I think they've earned a season of fans' continued loyalty, if they deliver on the promise of the 1st episode I saw for the whole of this season, watch out, cause ASOIAF's back!

Here's something I think I can say to stir the pot until 8/21. There is something in the premiere episode of HOTD that would be considered high ASOIAF heresy were it not the active involvement and blessing of GRRM. I'm very curious what the theorycrafters will do with it. https://t.co/O06z2BeXZo

Not a single review in this entire article talk bad about the show. Everyone hails newest addition to HBO’s GOT universe. While the reviewers have only seen the pilot, their reactions are valid as the pilot very much sets the tone for the entire season. If the pilot doesn’t hook you in its possible that you won’t even bother to watch the rest of the episodes. House of the Dragon follows the legacy of Game of Thrones in the truest fashion. As a die-hard Game of Thrones fan who is still pissed at HBO and its creators for the last season, I’m glad that I have something to quench my thirst for an epic fantasy drama.
The GOT prequel has an incredible ensemble cast that includes Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Along with the main cast, the supporting cast of the show includes- Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, Savannah Steyn, and more.
