A new poster for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has been released, and it features a particularly menacing Targaryen. The poster depicts a gigantic dragon covering almost the entire background, behind a flight of stone steps lined with swords. A young Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) stands firm in the midst of it all with an eerie, unflinching gaze. The elusive caption for the poster reads, “Fire will reign,”. While the identity of the enormous mythical beast is unknown, fans believe it is her companion Syrax. Have a look below yourself.
House of the Dragon Rhaenyra and Syrax Poster
The poster is our first good look at one of the many fire-breathers we’ll be seeing in House of the Dragon when it premieres in the fall. The show takes place at the height of Targaryen power, when Westeros was home to the greatest number of dragons ever. The story centers around the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war between House Targaryen over the succession of the Iron Throne. So, Syrax won’t be the only creature we encounter.
When the first teaser aired in March last year, fresh photos were released, and viewers got a glimpse of the most important characters from the series.
Everything We Know About The Game Of Thrones Prequel
House of the Dragon is both a prequel and spinoff to the popular fantasy series Game of Thrones. The upcoming show is based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood, which covers the beginning of House Targaryen’s downfall and is set 200 years before the events of the main series. Writer Ryan Condal and director Miguel Sapochnik are the showrunners for House of the Dragon.
Character posters for House of the Dragon have confirmed that Emma D’Arcy’s Princess Rhaenyra will be joined by Paddy Considine playing King Viserys I Targaryen, and “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen. Alongside them, the show will also feature Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, and Steve Toussaint.
Martin himself has hinted that the series, which finished filming in London earlier this year, will be “dark,” “powerful,” and “visceral.” Check out the official trailer below.
House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 21.
