House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 Spoilers and Summary

  • Title – A Dance of Dragons
  • Duration – 60 Min
  • Directed By – Alan Taylor
  • Written by – Ryan Condal

HOTD Season 2 Episode 4 is called A Dance of Dragons and is going to have a sole focus on the Battle of Rook’s Rest. We see Criston and Gwayne  attacking the castle when Rhaenys arrives and sets everything on fire. Gwayne goes into shock, but Criston says, “It’s all part of the plan,” and orders the guards to “give the signal,” revealing that it’s all a trap. Meanwhile, Aemond is hiding in the forest with Vhagar sleeping beside him. He orders Vhagar to fly, but before he can do that moment, he sees Sunfyre in the sky and tells Vhagar to wait. Aegon wasn’t supposed to be there; he went there on his own to prove his worth. Aemond deliberately lets Aegon go up against Meleys.

Aemond watches Sunfyre while they’re still entangled in the air, fully aware that he’s going to burn Aegon as well. Meleys manages to dodge, and the full force of Vhagar’s fire hits Sunfyre and Aegon. Both fall from the sky. While Vhagar burns Sunfyre, Meleys not only avoids the fire but also stays far away from all the chaos. It’s clear that Rhaenys could have fled if she wanted to. There’s no obstacle preventing her from flying to a safe place. It seems that Aemond isn’t even interested in fighting her; he was really aiming at Aegon. But then she looks turns due to Meleys injured leg and decides to go all out on Vhagar. From her expression, it seems that she knows she’s going to die but wants to fight. Basically, it looks like she’s sacrificing herself.

There’s a fairly regular and inconsequential fight between Meleys and Vhagar, to a point where it seems that Meleys has won and Vhagar disappears into the clouds. We don’t know if they fell or fled; Rhaenys looks around and can’t find them. She then turns toward the sea, and that’s when Vhagar appears out of nowhere and tears Meleys’ neck, killing her. Rhaenys and Meleys fall from the sky to their deaths. Apparently, unlike the books, in the show, Rhaenys doesn’t burn but instead the fall kills her.

That is pretty much all we know about the episode in a gist and rest of the details can only be learned after watching the episode day after tomorrow.
