Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Filming Begins This Fall

Our Flag Means Death is a period comedy about Pirates created by David Jenkins and produced by filmmaker-actor Taika Waititi. It was renewed for season 2 by the streaming service HBO MAX a few days ago. This is the first official renewal of a series by the streaming giant after WB merged with Discovery and spun-off into Warner Bros Discovery. You can read all about it here.

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Filming Begin in October

The good news for fans is that it begins filming pretty soon as Taiki Watiti revealed an October 2022 filming commencement. It is just a few months now before the filming begins and this is what Watiti had to say about it in an interview with Collider.

“We start filming hopefully I think by October, and we’re gonna shoot in New Zealand,” Waititi said. “We shot the last one in LA. Weird place to try and do something all on the ocean, so we’re gonna go down to New Zealand which is surrounded by it. That’s one of the things I’m most excited about for the next year.”

As soon as it debuted back in March, it was showered with critical acclaim and by the end of the season it became a major hit owing to a positive word of mouth. As for Taika Watiti, he isn’t just the executive producer of the show, but also plays the role of Blackbeard, the infamous pirate. Ever since the confirmation of the second season, this is the biggest update about the show yet.

The show became the most in demand series in the US after its finale, finally unseating The Book of Boba Fett after it stayed on top for three months. It boasts an amazing 91% approval rating on RT with an average rating of 7.60/10, as well as a score of 70 on Metacritic. RT’s review synopsis reads, “Our Flag Means Deaths gentle sensibility doesn’t quite strike comedic gold, but its bemusing band of buccaneers are endearing enough that viewers seeking a comforting watch will find bountiful booty.”
