The Last of Us Season 2 Gets An Important Update by Showrunners

The Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey starrer series, The Last of Us season 1 is over, and it has received widespread praise and acclaim. People have been curious about the launching of the second season and tried their best to gauge some or the other information from the cast and crew about the show’s production process for a sequel.

The Last of Us Season 2 – What Are The New Developments?

Craig Mazin, the Last of Us showrunner, in an interview with Hollywood reporter was prodded multiple times to let on the specifics of the release of the second season and how far they have moved ahead with production decisions, and although he was not ready to give up concrete information that would make us mark our calendars, the interviewers did glean information out of him that many ardent fans would find interesting.

For example, when asked about the casting process of the character Abby, Mazin said, “”The strike stopped us in our tracks. Things were in process. Look, Abby was the first role that we wanted to tackle. We’ve got a pretty good track record of making major cast announcements and people going “really?” which will probably continue. So people may disagree, but I think we got it right so far and the audience seems to feel we got it right and the Academy seems to feel we got it right.”

The showrunner did not elaborate much on the trajectory of Season 2, but he did profess faith in the viewers of the show – and the creators’ insistence with changing and modifying the storyline for the screen, along with not always staying true to the chronological order of the events of the game. Mazin said, “Anybody that has played the game and then watched the first season knows that sometimes we do exactly what happened to the game and sometimes we do something wildly different. We also don’t necessarily do things in the same order, or at the same time. In our first season, we repeatedly did things that were upsetting — everyone died except Joel and Ellie. People understood watching the show that this was a story where people aren’t safe.” Mazin also stated that he did not particularly care for backlash, because often their decisions have faced that – but fans have eventually come around when they have realized the necessity of those decisions.

A Still from The Last of Us

Mazin also indicated that the budget of the second season will be way more than the first one, with more creative decisions that would surprise people. With the ongoing strikes, we do not really have a clearly spelled out date yet for the second season, but what seems is that progress is underway and we might hear some news soon.
