Alice in Borderland is set to return for a third season on Netflix. After the success of Season 1 on Netflix, premiered on December 10, 2020, the second season was released on December 22, 20222. The Japanese thriller is based on the manga by Haro Aso. It revolves around characters stuck in an abandoned Tokyo who are compelled to compete in lethal games.
Possibility of Alice in Borderland Season 3
Since Seasons 1 and 2 have covered the entire manga, the streaming service is likely waiting to see what’s next. If Netflix decides to renew the show for Season 3, an expansion of Arisu and Usagi’s is possible, giving the writers a space for new content. As per Hypebeast, Alice in Borderland is Netflix’s most-watched Japanese series of all time. Considering that impressive success, it’s possible that a Season 3 could be in the cards. In September 2023, fans shared hints on social media suggesting the renewal of the third season. A poster was spotted in Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan featuring the Netflix logo alongside playing cards. However, whether it’s legit or not is uncertain.
Expected Cast of Third Season
Here’s a list of actors who might return in Season 3:
- Kento Yamazaki as Yuzuha Usagi
- Tao Tsuchiya as Ryōhei Arisu
- Aya Asahina as Kuina
- Nijirō Murakam as Chishiya
- Ayaka Miyoshi as Ann
- Dori Sakurada as Niragi
- Shô Aoyagi as Aguni
- Yuri Tsunematsu as Heiya
- Riisa Naka as Mira Kano
Plot of Alice in Borderland Season 3
Because the previous seasons already adapted the entire manga, anything can happen in Season 3. In the Season 2 finale, Arisu brought an end to the games allowing the players to go back to the real world. However, it wasn’t as easy as it seems due to the emergence of a Joker card in the hospital garden. In the original manga, the Joker represents the Ferryman, the entity responsible for returning everyone to the real world. The Joker card could hint that the games are far from over and it’s nothing but illusion.
Riisa Naka, who plays Mira Kano, told Nextshark in December 2022: “If there were to be a Season 3, I wonder what would happen with the whole team that fought together so far. You saw the ghost of Hatter introduced in the show so many times, so I have this feeling that he might come back again. So for Mira, you might also think that she could return.”
The first two seasons of Alice in Borderland are streaming on Netflix.
