Netflix’s Arcane Season 2 is coming to take the fans back into the world of League of Legends. Season 1 of Arcane earned global acclaim (100% Rotten Tomatoes) causing Netflix to quickly say yes to the effort. There have not been many updates regarding the second season, but fans can keep their calm knowing there is a lot on the way.
Arcane Season 2: Release and Cast
During a video conference from League of Legends parent company Tencent in September 2023, it was revealed that the fans can storyboard expect the animated series to come to Netflix in Q4 2024 aka October-December 2024.
Riot Games CEO Nicolo previously remarked hinting it’s not going to release in 2023. “So, I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China. We’re making progress on it. It is not ready yet, and there are two reasons for that. One, you want the quality. We just do not want to rush, and that takes time. So that’s a good reason.”
Co-showrunner Christian Linke talked about the scripts of Season 2 in a Reddit AMA. “There’s always some amount of tweaks that happen in the process. Seeing story boards & hearing voices for the first time makes you realize that something doesn’t quite click, or there are new opportunities you didn’t recognize before.”
There will be new faces in this season that are yet to be revealed. Some League champions that could appear in Season 2 include Blitzcrank, Warwick, Swain, and Camille, among others. Three actors have been confirmed to appear in season 2. The actors are Ella Purnell (Jinx), Hailee Steinfeld (Vi), and Katie Leung (Caitlyn Kiramman). Other actors that are expected to come back are:
- Kevin Alejandro (Jayce Talis)
- Toks Olagundoye (Mel Medarda)
- Harry Lloyd (Viktor)
- Reed Shannon (Ekko)
- Mick Wingert (Cecil B. Heimerdinger)
- Amirah Vann (Sevika)
What Can You Expect from this Season?
Plot details of Arcane Season 2 remain scarce. However, there are few directions this new season can move forward with considering the Season 1 finale.
It will be fascinating which council members survive Jinx’s bombing of the Piltover chambers. Jayce may make it out unscathed because he is a significant character. Piltover councilors Mel and Cassandra may not fare, with their wounds and potential likely serving as an inspiration for Jayce (a close friend of Mel) and Katie Leung’s Caitlyn (daughter of Cassandra) in Season 2. If some of the council were to die due to the bombing, this could act into a vote to provide Zaun its independence being sustained. This hostile act could change everything.
Season 2 will probably see Hailee Steinfeld’s Vi back residing in Ekko’s Firelight utopia in the undercity. Even though Jinx spared her sister and killed Silco instead, the relationship between her and Vi may not be mendable.
Scientist Singed played a minor role in Season 1 but he could take advantage of Zaun’s freedom. Many have speculated that the shimmer-filled beast seen in Singed’s laboratory, Warwick, could be Vi and Jinx’s father, Vander. Perhaps season 2 will deal with how the sisters deal with the revelation of their father being alive.
Arcane Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix globally now.
