I’ve written about many great directors in my time at this website – Christopher Nolan, Lord Marty, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Denis Villeneuve but for some reason I’ve never written about the Best Director Hollywood has working currently – David Fincher. Yes, as a student of cinema and fellow filmmaker, I firmly believe that when it comes to helming a film there is no one better at it than Fincher. The names I mentioned above and others are great but the expertise of Fincher is unmatched. The man has given us gems like Fight Club, Se7en, Zodiac, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network and one of the best TV shows ever – Mindhunter. While his last directorial wasn’t his best – Mank but I am super excited for his next, The Killer.
Since Mank, Fincher has continued to produce the animated anthology series Love Death + Robots, even directing one episode (“Bad Travelling”). Almost all great directors are releasing their movies this year including Fincher. After a lot of anticipation, Netflix has finally released the first trailer of The Killer and it is menacing.
The Killer Trailer Introduces Us To Michael Fassbender’s Methodical Assassin!
The Killer is based on the French graphic novel of the same name, the film follows an assassin who “battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.” Michael Fassbender will star in the titular role and Sophie Charlotte, Tilda Swinton, Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell and Monique Ganderton. Fassbender has starred in numerous adaptations like Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, a Steve Jobs biopic and the X-Men franchise.
Although, the actor has not made a big screen appearance since 2019. This is also his first collaboration with David Fincher ever since his debut in Zack Snyder’s 300. The trailer for The Killer is as methodical as it’s main character. The entire trailer is a tease, not revealing anything about the film’s plot just inviting us to the experience.
